Position Summary

The Senior Medical Manager for the International region supports the Regional Medical Lead (RML) in the delivery of the regional medical plan for a rare glycogen storage disease (GSD). The role is responsible for delivering critical medical affairs activities that advance the science and shape the practice of medicine in the field of NMDs. Partnering with global and local cross-functional teams on evidence generation, publication, education and scientific engagement activities and supporting countries across Europe, Asia Pacific and Canada in the launch of a new therapy in the field of neurology/GSDs.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the therapy area Medical Affairs strategy and plan for a rare GSD/NMD, in collaboration with the RML
  • Serve as a regional Medical Affairs representative for key external and internal stakeholders, providing deep and advanced disease state and product information expertise
  • Interpret key scientific data, identify unmet medical, educational, and research needs within the medical community and design and deliver activities that align with Amicus’s strategy and mission
  • Develop and implement key regional medical events including standalone meetings, congress symposia and webinars in close collaboration with external experts in the field of neurology and metabolic
  • Engage externally with experts in the field, identify and act on opportunities for collaboration
  • Represent Medical Affairs in Brand Teams to develop and implement a cross-functional brand strategy
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic area expertise, stay current with new developments in the field and competitors. Attend national and international congresses to gather intelligence and share insights to upskill the Amicus medical team
  • Support the RML in the delivery of key medical capability and excellence initiatives for the region
  • Maintain high ethical standards and ensure compliance with external (ABPI) and internal codes and policies. Where appropriate, act as the Final Medical Signatory for activities in the region
  • Support the affiliate teams with delivery of medical activities, expert engagement, training and launch preparations

Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Physician, pharmacist, or advanced scientific degree (Masters/PhD)
  • Ability to be ABPI final signatory is strongly preferred (GMC registered physician or GPhC registered pharmacist)

Professional Work Experience And Skills

  • Broad medical affairs experience across field and office-based roles in bio-pharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry with a record of accomplishment at Medical Advisor or Senior Medical Manager level.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, customer focus and emotional intelligence in developing and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience collaborating with external experts to design and deliver medical affairs activities
  • Ability to manage all aspects of Medical Affairs tactical plan execution
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate medical/scientific literature effectively, and develop effective medical and communication strategies
  • Strong business acumen; has working knowledge of the multi-disciplinary functions involved in a company's drug development process, e.g. research, development, clinical operations, bio statistics, regulatory, commercial
  • Proven planning and organizational skills
  • Good knowledge of national regulatory guidelines (Medicines Act and the Human Medicines Regulations, ABPI /IPHA) Code of Practice and Standard Operating Procedures, and experience of their implementation within the business environment
  • Experience as a final medical signatory strongly preferred
  • Experience pre/peri-launch for a new product, preferably in rare disease
  • Proven self-starter who is solution focused and positive when presented with challenges. Self-reliant, resilient and thrives in a fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to manage a demanding schedule, and adapt and be flexible as needed with evolving priorities
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
