About The Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Operations Manager to join our team, based in Milton Keynes, candidates at other locations may be considered however it should be noted that the role will require some UK travel, and flexibility will be required.
You will work alongside a diverse and supportive team to support the deliver the aims and objectives of our Solar projects.
What You Will Do
- You will report to the Head of Solar you will be guiding and managing a team of Solar O&M Lead Asset Managers and Solar O&M Asset Managers to meet the contractual deadlines and the demands of our contracts. Ensuring that we encounter no LDs and provide operational excellence.
- You will be responsible for guiding and managing the Lead Solar Analyst and their team of Solar Analysts to ensure monitoring and performance of the sites as well as all contractual obligations around availability reporting and site performance is met.
- You will be the escalation point of contact for clients who require a solution at a heightened level which is beyond the normal expectancy of the team and complex matters.
- You will take ownership of the BayWa r.e. portfolio of solar farms and ensure successful delivery of the BayWa r.e scope of services and client management of each portfolio.
- You will be responsible for working with the Senior Technical Operations Manager. You will ensure alignment between the Asset Management team, Technical/Field team, and Solar analysts/monitoring and performance team and create/support with the creation of any processes required.
- You will be responsible for team engagement and involvement in working groups with remote team members.
- You will be responsible for optimising the overall team utilisation through guidance and empowering the team leaders to find the best solution.
- You will be responsible for setting out and reporting to the Head of Solar on a set of solar KPI’s to monitor the sites and department performance.
- You will be the lead in the adoption and onboarding/ integration of new solar assets into operations using the internal onboarding process.
- You will be responsible for building relationships with the Senior Management of clients and stakeholders to promote best practices and collaboration through 1:1 meetings and collaboration.
- You will be required to ensure that all teams are standardised in their approach to operations using best industry practices, complying with up-to-date legislation and engaging with industry bodies.
- You will be responsible for managing internal budgets for direct department costs set out by the Head of Solar and working with the finance team to ensure all portfolios invoicing is raised in a timely manner.
- You will drive additional services and maximise revenues for the solar department, ensuring that all financial KPIs and targets are met.
- You will work with the digitalisation transformation manager to implement and drive the use of digital tools.
- You will support with the development and implementation of company processes, support team engagement and communication ensuring that a high standard of service is consistently achieved.
- You will be responsible for creating monthly meetings for full team involvement and input.
- You will be required to continually identify, develop and mentor talent across the team for best-in-class services and employee progression opportunities.
- You will ensure that all activities are carried out under the approved UK HSE legislation and/or in compliance with other industry rules, CDM Regulations and BayWa r.e. internal policies.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- Degree in a technical or commercial field (desirable).
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience, of which at least 2 years in the UK large scale solar industry and proven track record in solar asset operations.
- Excellent line management skills, and ability to work with a variety of key stakeholders both office based and remotely.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of leading projects and teams to successful results.
- Extensive experience of service contracts and the underlying technical, commercial, and legal provisions.
- Excellent commercial insight for assessing key value drivers of projects.
- Active listener that shows you understand and value others’ viewpoints.
- Excellent communication skills, both written (presentations, reports, documents) and spoken.
- Proven negotiator and team player.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to effectively manage a range of priorities.
- Structured approach and methodical working style.
- Able to remain composed and professional under pressure, keeping a positive outlook.
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Able to suggest improvements to existing processes and implement new processes.
- Confident communicator, with solid interpersonal skills allowing you to lead a large team, building and maintaining relationships with clients, suppliers, other market players, further stake holders and international internal BayWa r.e. teams.
- Knowledge of solar technology and operations.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems as well as analysis of technical data/reporting, and monitoring and performance of utility scale solar assets.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Due to the nature of the role there is a requirement for a valid driving license.
- Understanding of UK HSQE legislation and valid IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
