Role - general description
- The role will mainly focus on the development of advanced energy models using IES Virtual Environment, including NABERS Design for Performance, CIBSE TM54 and LEED energy models using ApacheHVAC. The successful candidate will lead and champion the energy modelling offer and develop best practice for NABERS work, in particular on Design for Performance and train more junior of staff.
- The role will also require other forms of energy modelling including, but not limited to Part L, EPC, Thermal Comfort and Daylighting. Projects will include both new build and refurbished schemes. As part of your role, you will be leading the delivery of projects and helping to train and upskill the team in the use of advanced modelling techniques. The role will require in-depth technical knowledge of building physics in addition to exemplar interpersonal, organisational, presentation and management skills. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to the development of the business through involvement in writing fee proposals, attending project interviews and fostering business relationships with both existing and new clients.
Responsibilities - Technical
- The successful candidate is expected to have sufficient knowledge and project experience in the field of advanced energy modelling. Technical responsibilities will include the following:
- Advanced energy modelling using IES Virtual Environment including NABERS Design for Performance, CIBSE TM54 and LEED energy models. The candidate must have knowledge and experience of using ApacheHVAC.
- Compliance energy models including Part L and EPC
- Thermal modelling to assess indoor environmental conditions (e.g. daylight, overheating, thermal comfort).
- Advise on building strategies that maximise passive design principles.
- Maintain knowledge of low carbon technologies and design strategies with a particular focus on (Net) Zero Carbon.
- In-depth knowledge of the Net Zero carbon Building Standard.
- Have oversight of energy modelling undertaken by more junior members of staff including developing and adopting robust QA procedures and QA of project models and studies.
- Being able to present advanced modelling concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop technical reports and produce calculations in line with project needs.
- Ensure continuous improvement and application of the latest thinking and innovations relating to sustainable design and operation of buildings.
- Development of standards and assessment procedures to continuously improve the efficiency and quality of Twin&Earth’s services.
- Responsibilities - General
- Agree level of service and project outputs with your line manager for each project, including understanding the scope, timescales and target profitability of each project.
- Attend project meetings as required and present findings / progress reports.
- Oversight of projects including resourcing, project delivery, project team, client communications and project budget.
- Develop project proposals and attend project interviews and presentations as required.
- Report to Twin&Earth’s management team on costs and progress.
- Support, assist and deputise to other members of Twin&Earth as workload and/or circumstances require.
- Manage and mentor more junior members of staff and ensure that Twin&Earth’s sustainability ethos is maintained across the team.
- Maintain excellent client and team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities where appropriate with existing and new clients.
- Champion sustainability on behalf of Twin&Earth through active participation in relevant industry groups, development and/or coordination of thought pieces and presentations to the wider industry.
Qualifications/experience/skills
- The individual undertaking this role is expected to have the following skills:
- Have a relevant science or engineering degree (e.g Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering & Physics, Building Services or Architectural Engineering)
- At least 5 years’ experience in a related role.
- Proficient working knowledge, experience and/or qualifications in building energy modelling packages including IES Virtual Environment and ApacheHVAC.
- Knowledge and experience of NABERS Design for Performance and CIBSE TM54 modelling.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and controls
- Knowledge and experience of energy efficient building design and specification.
- Good understanding of the policy and regulatory landscape relating to sustainable buildings and building energy in the UK.
- Good experience of front line (face to face) delivery to customers.
- Clear communicator – comfortable with presenting to an audience (both written and verbally) on both technical and non-technical matters.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, independently and as a team member or leader.
- Good experience of analysing complex data using Excel
- Highly motivated, customer focused and willing to take on new challenges.
- Ability to contribute to team working and collective objectives.
Desirable skills/qualifications
- Knowledge and experience of LEED Energy Modelling.
- Qualified to produce domestic / non-domestic EPCs. Qualified as a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant.
- NABERS Energy (in use) certified and IES attended and completed ApacheHVAC course(s).
Employment basis
- This is a full time, permanent position based at Twin&Earth’s London office
- Twin&Earth currently offer hybrid working – allowing staff to work from home up to 3 days a week (subject to meeting client & project needs)
- Contracted hours will be 37.5hrs a week
