About The Role
Join Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) business as a
Senior Planning Engineer and take a leading role in delivering projects that power millions, while supporting the UK’s transition to Net Zero.
You’ll lead complex, high-profile infrastructure programmes using the latest planning tools and methods. This role is integral to connecting the new low-carbon power station to the grid, involving state-of-the-art equipment and essential connection works that make a real difference to the UK’s energy future.
Location: Middlesbrough, You’ll be on-site three days per week, working closely with our specialist Power T&D teams.

What you'll be doing
As a Senior Planning Engineer, You Will
- Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring all programmes are fully resourced and logically linked across every stage of the project.
- Lead tender planning, producing clear and persuasive tender programmes and planning strategies that support successful bids.
- Manage contract programmes, making sure project delivery stays aligned with commercial, operational and client requirements.
- Identify and manage risks, assessing impacts on the critical path and implementing effective mitigation or recovery plans.
- Produce accurate reports and insights, including progress updates, KPIs and planning information for the project leadership team.
- Support and guide junior planners, encouraging teamwork, knowledge sharing and professional development.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders, including Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams and Clients, to ensure successful delivery.
- Improve planning processes, helping to enhance tools, systems and ways of working across the planning function.
Who we're looking for
We’re seeking senior planning professionals who bring clarity, structure, and strategic foresight. You’ll need:
- A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in planning roles on major infrastructure or energy projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 or Asta Powerproject, plus Excel and reporting tools.
- Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, earned value analysis, QSRA, and TRA methodologies.
- A strategic, analytical mindset with a keen eye for programme risk and opportunity.
- Excellent communication skills to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
- The ability to lead independently and collaboratively in a hybrid, fast-paced environment.
