About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About The Role
As a Senior or Principal Transportation Planner, you will lead the development and delivery of transport-related aspects of planning applications, including major schemes within the borough. This will span from pre-application stages through to the coordination and implementation of associated highways mitigation measures via the required legal agreements. These applications will include major regeneration schemes in Wood Green and Tottenham, which form part of our key regeneration areas.
You will be responsible for leading on major planning applications, working closely with colleagues in the Council’s Development Management, Highways, Carbon Management, and Regeneration teams to ensure that each application supports and contributes to wider urban planning and sustainability initiatives—such as the regeneration of the borough and the fulfilment of goals set out in Haringey’s Local Plan, Transport Strategy, and Walking and Cycling Action Plan.
For examples of the types of applications you may be working on in this role, please refer to the current applications under consideration on the Council’s planning portal.
About The Team
You will be part of the Transport and Travel Team, an award-winning group responsible for delivering the Council’s transport policy and programme management functions. The team also includes the Active Travel Team, which oversees the delivery of initiatives such as dockless bikes, School Streets, and the Council’s electric vehicle (EV) programme.
About You
We are looking for a Senior or Principal Transport Planner who can bring their expertise to support Haringey Council’s transport planning function. We are seeking someone with experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting or leading on aspects of large planning applications—ideally with a focus on providing transport planning advice for new developments.
You will understand the importance of being collaborative and relationship-focused in managing the transport aspects of planning applications. Your well-developed interpersonal skills will enable you to build effective relationships with colleagues both internally and externally, at all levels.
You will also need to demonstrate the ability to provide senior leaders with confidence and assurance that planning applications are assessed thoroughly and that appropriate mitigation is recommended in a timely manner.
Working for Haringey
At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community. Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.
