About the Role
A multi-disciplinary consultancy in Central London is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead cost management across a portfolio of residential and mixed-use developments. This role offers involvement from early feasibility through to procurement, delivery, and final account on projects ranging from 50 to 500 units and up to £100m in value.
You’ll work closely with clients, contractor teams, and internal project managers to deliver commercially sound, design-led schemes, while mentoring junior staff and contributing to business development across the practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the lead QS across multiple live schemes (new build and refurbishment)
- Prepare feasibility studies, cost plans, and value engineering proposals
- Manage the tendering and subcontract procurement process
- Draft and administer JCT contract documentation
- Oversee monthly valuations, cost reporting, and change management
- Produce cash flow forecasts and ensure accurate cost control throughout the lifecycle
- Engage directly with clients to provide strategic commercial guidance
- Support and mentor junior QSs and APC candidates
- Report commercial risks and performance updates to Directors
- Contribute to sustainability assessments and low-carbon cost planning where appropriate
- Collaborate with internal PMs and consultants to align project delivery and budget
Ideal Candidate Profile
- MRICS qualified, or currently progressing through the APC (12-month goal or less)
- Prior experience in a cost consultancy or PQS environment
- Strong working knowledge of JCT contracts
- Experience leading residential projects is essential
- Able to manage multiple complex projects with competing deadlines
- Technically strong with excellent commercial reporting and analytical ability
- Clear, confident communicator with clients and contractors
- Proficient with take-off and measurement software
- Advanced Excel skills and a keen eye for cost drivers and opportunities
- Team-oriented with a proactive, solutions-led approach
