At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.
We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That’s why we’re looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.
Cancer Research UK has a vision to bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. However, to achieve our mission and grow our funding, we must build even greater momentum and urgency around our cause, and engage and inspire millions of people in deeper, more meaningful ways to join our mission. Therefore, we have created a long-term Engage Strategy and designed a bold transformation programme which aims to better harness data and digital marketing technology to deliver more relevant, trusted, and frictionless experiences for our audiences (and in turn drive growth).
As a Senior Reporting & Performance Manager, you will help us achieve this mission to place data at the core of our decision-making process by leading our newly created Reporting & Performance team. You’ll drive the organisation’s data maturity by building high-quality reporting and visualisation capabilities, creating a Centre of Excellence, and enabling stakeholders and senior leaders to access and apply insights that improve performance and supporter experience. You’ll also oversee a large reporting function by ensuring work is prioritised and resourced effectively, mentoring the team to upskill their technical proficiency, and implementing industry best practices, methodologies, and tools across reporting processes.
This is an opportunity to join an organisation making a significant investment in data reporting, and to play a key role in the largest transformation programme in the history of the UK charity sector. The strategic and technical leadership you provide, and the solutions you embed, will lay the foundations for Cancer Research UK’s data maturity and reporting capabilities, empowering our lifesaving work for years to come.
If you're a Reporting & Performance Manager with a track record of establishing robust reporting and visualisation processes, and leading stakeholders and large reporting teams within a B2C, marketing-led environment, we’d love for you to join our mission
What will I be doing?
- Establishing and leading Cancer Research UK’s newly formed Reporting & Performance team as part of our Marketing, Fundraising & Engagement (MFE) directorate. This will involve:
- Managing two separate reporting teams for Relationship Management (c.3 reports) and MFE (c.3 reports), as well as a Salesforce migration team (c.4 reports).
- Prioritising and delegating incoming work across the Reporting & Performance teams, ensuring optimal resource allocation, timely delivery against project timelines, and consistent, high-quality support to the business.
- Building the organisation’s reporting and visualisation capabilities, driving data maturity to enhance both supporter and employee experiences through the strategic use of sophisticated reporting tools, visual storytelling, and actionable insights.
- Creating a reporting and visualisations Centre of Excellence, ensuring high-quality and accurate dashboards are available for all stakeholders across MFE.
- Providing strategic leadership and collaborating with stakeholders across MFE to:
- Translate highly complex data into compelling stories and dashboards to empower technical and non-technical stakeholders with the data they really need.
- Identify how we maintain an optimal dashboard catalogue, ensuring data is easily accessible across the organisation.
- Utilise multiple visualisation tools and methods to present ideas to a broad group of stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to utilise reporting and visualisations to enable innovation, improve performance, and unlock deeper insights to help accelerate our mission.
- Providing technical leadership for the Visualisations team, mentoring and coaching them to:
- Develop high levels of proficiency in SQL, DAX & Power BI.
- Upskill analytical and visualisation skillsets across the team.
- Providing technical expertise and guidance across data migration initiatives and teams. This includes:
- Helping to ensure the successful CRM migration from Siebel to Salesforce, which goes live next year.
- Gathering and executing the technical requirements for report migrations.
- Leading and overseeing our reporting following the CRM data migration, ensuring reporting outputs are not only delivered accurately and on time, but also embedded into business processes and decision-making to drive performance.
- Leading on cross-functional reporting and visualisation projects.
- Establishing robust and efficient reporting and visualisation processes across the department and wider organisation.
- Leveraging the latest trends, best practices, and analytical toolsets (such as Python, Snowflake, and AWS SageMaker) to deliver best-in-class analytics solutions to our stakeholders.
- Embracing and embedding Agile ways of working across the team in alignment with our technology partners.
What are you looking for?
- Experienced Reporting & Performance Manager who has led a data reporting & visualisation function in a large, matrixed B2C marketing-led organisation with a digital-first approach.
- Expertise in technical coding language and data visualisation tools (e.g. SQL, Python, Snowflake, Power BI, Databricks, GA) with experience implementing best practices, guidance, and standards.
- Proven success in creating robust data pipelines and automated workflows for visualisations.
- Strategic and audience-focused mindset with experience using statistical analysis to understand and drive value from consumer behaviour.
- Experience doing this using analytical tools and techniques such as hypothesis testing, ANOVA, and regression analysis, etc., is desirable but not essential—we welcome applicants without this experience.
- Solutions-driven and continuous improvement mindset with experience creating high-performing reporting and visualisation support and advancing an organisation’s data maturity to enable smarter decision-making and better user experiences.
- Has successfully built credible and collaborative cross-functional stakeholder and senior leadership relationships. This includes:
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, and coaching skills.
- A proven ability to challenge the status quo.
- Excellent coaching skills with significant experience in managing, leading, training, and developing large reporting teams with a broad remit.
