About The Role
The Senior Revenue Analysts provide high-level support for their line managers, analysing the patterns and nature of passenger travel and revenues and/or evaluating proposals for ticketing system developments, all of which underpins decisions in many areas such as: the allocation of revenue from multi-modal tickets; income forecasting; evaluation of fares options; assessment of future ticketing system changes.
You will be providing strong analytical support to determine cost and revenue apportionment, revenue and journey analyses to support the Agreements team in Cost and Revenue Reviews and Price Reviews. You will be undertaking other analytical delivery as required, including development of econometric models, and sensitivity analyses to ensure that the strategic direction of Agreements is evidenced based .
You will be contributing to the Oval project, working with the TTL Charges lead, Finance, Commercial and Operational colleagues within TfL and key external stakeholders (eg Train Operators, Department for Transport amongst others).
Key Accountabilities
- Undertake development of econometric models, ensuring key economic indicators, journeys, revenue, pricing and other relevant data is regularly updated.
- Liaise with key stakeholders internally and externally to understand the operational and economic context to inform the modelling, making changes as appropriate.
- Provide regular updates and liaise proactively with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate the key findings of the modelling in a clear and engaging manner.
- Understand and interpret the findings of the PAYG cost review and support communications to Train Operators.
- Undertake analysis, capture methodology and assumptions to apportion costs to Train Operators in a fair and equitable manner and in line with Agreements.
- Ensure cost profiles reflect the latest updates from the cost review, in liaison with the TTL charges lead.
- Support the ongoing annual review of costs process, ensuring key inputs are available and usable.
- Support the Agreements team in price reviews for PAYG, providing data and insights to supplement the communication to Train Operators.
- Analyse journey and revenue data to determine whether TfL revenue apportionment is appropriate and communicate findings to Train Operators.
- Review revenue apportionment to Elizabeth Line and London Overground in the context of interoperator adjustments.
- Support the coordination, analysis, monitoring and buy-in of Operators to the Automated Adjustment Payments process.
- Explore future TOC requirements for the evolution of the Automated process.
Knowledge
- Economics, transport, engineering or mathematics degree preferred, with a strong record of application to real world
- Ability to apply advanced computer-based analytical techniques, e.g. Excel, SPSS, Business Objects, and to build appropriate computer models.
- Deep understanding of the PAYG and other ticketing system and the way in which ticket usage and sales data is held and can be interrogated.
- Good understanding of the various travel agreements and the provisions governing revenue sharing.
- Thorough Knowledge of TfL’s fares structures and ticketing policies.
- Strong understanding of the London transport network, fares and ticket types;
- Excellent understanding of economic indicators (inflation, price indices, prices, yields).
- Understanding of the SAP system for invoicing
Skills
Essential
- First class analytical skills and the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical environment with high data volumes
- Ability to present complex technical issues verbally and in writing, and to negotiate effectively over such issues
- Proven ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels both internally and externally.
- Excellent skills in interpreting and analysing data, deriving key insights and drivers
- Ability to run sensitivity analyses to understand impact of different outcomes
Desirable
- Ability to interrogate data warehouses and databases to extract journey, revenue and ticketing data.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders to gain buy-in and acceptance of analyses.
Experience
- Experience of developing and managing large and complex data analysis and/or model building tasks.
- Track record of delivering results from systems involving high volumes of transactions and the analysis and summarising of data from such systems.
- Significant experience in at least one of the following areas: economic or statistical analysis, accounting, market research, business analysis.
