JOB DESCRIPTION
The role sits in the Group Risk and Assurance Function providing business partnering.
This role supports alignment of group and divisional risk management objectives through the provision of 1st and 2nd line advice and support.to project and contract leadership teams to implement effective risk management strategies, capability, and behaviours consistent with Costain's Standards, risk appetite and client contractual commitments. This includes advice and facilitation of risk management activities through work-winning and assurance of contract delivery risk requirements. Including the scoping, delivery, and assurance of quantitative risk analysis and modelling.
The role plays an important part in supporting the Divisional Risk Team to provide effective business partnering to Sector and Divisional level leadership teams including risk decision making at all business levels across multiple risk perspectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
- Risk advisory support and facilitation of risk management activities to 1st line bid, contract, and project teams in line with work winning, contract, and project group risk management requirements.
- Works with bid and contract teams to identify, capture and assess threats and opportunities, providing advice on how to design delivery, commercial and supply chain arrangements to effectively manage risk.
- Leads risk identification, assessment, response planning and quantitative risk analysis (including QSRA and Cost Risk Modelling) for selected bids, ensuring risk outcomes are fully evaluated and pricing and milestone-setting decisions are informed by high quality risk analysis.
- Helps contract teams to set up, operate and improve contract and project risk management activities where required. Supports the Divisional Risk Business Partner to implement the group’s enterprise risk management requirements at divisional, sector and contract (work winning/delivery) and project levels, including through:
- Effective risk identification, assessment, response planning and implementation, reporting and review.
- Operating and developing the divisional risk management process (including risk data analysis and reporting, risk coverage/exposure, trends, risk indicators, for example).
- Delivery of risk assurance over 1st line risk management arrangements and execution.
- Supporting effective divisional prioritisation, awareness and communication of key Group Risk Policy, Standards and Procedure requirements.
- As directed, may lead, or provide support to wider Group R&A improvement activities, helping to develop and embed improvements to risk and assurance arrangements across the business.
Essential
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Experienced in applying technical subject matter expertise in a practical way to support informed risk management activities across contracts, programmes, and projects through delivery phases.
- Experienced in supporting management teams to apply a range of techniques to identify, define, evaluate, respond to and report on risks to objectives (including business objectives of the wider costain group).
- Experienced in the use of qualitative and quantitative risk techniques (QSRA & CRA) or able to demonstrate capability to achieve this expertise.
- Experience of delivering effective risk business partnering, technical insight & analysis, facilitation of risk activities and support to 1st and / or 2nd line risk assurance activities.
Desirable
- Good understanding and practical experience of delivering 1st and/or 2nd line role risk management functional activities in a complex / multi-level organisation and across multiple risk perspectives.
- Knowledge and awareness of project planning & controls, quality management and commercial contracting risks
- Knowledge and application of wider enterprise risk management requirements at contract / project and programme levels.

- Axelos Management of Risk (MoR) Practitioner
- APM PMQ
- Or equivalent qualifications or experience
