The holder of this role is a member of the Networks team responsible for supporting the ongoing delivery, development, and maintenance of on-premise networking services, the Zscaler environment together with some overlap into cloud services (Azure).
The Networks team is a core part of LRQA’s infrastructure function, focusing primarily on on-premise networking and server hardware and the Zscaler configuration across the organisation. As LRQA is a cloud-first organisation there is also the potential for Azure networking support.
Reporting to the Server and Networks Manager, the role requires someone with good attention to detail who will work closely with the wider architecture, infrastructure, and security teams, to develop and deliver resilient and consistent server and network services as part of LRQA’s core business service. The Role holder is expected to be able to support the current networking infrastructure in our office and data centre environments and support the modernisation of this platform.
The team are encouraged to collaborate, share knowledge, and work collectively to cross-skill with other disciplines, so an element of being able to work in a collaborative environment is critical to the success of this role.
The role will also require you to work closely with support vendors to ensure that incidents related to the platform are handled within the agreed service levels and act as an agent for any technical escalations that require specialist support. Given the nature of the role, there is also a regular requirement for work within typical server and network environments, such as on-premise comms rooms and external office and data centre deployments across the globe. Working from home is expected when there is no requirement to visit physical locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, Implement, Manage and Maintain enterprise-scale networking with a focus on security, performance and scalability
- Manage and maintain hardware from several vendors including; Cisco, Meraki, Palo Alto and others
- Ensure performance of the office-based Meraki Wi-Fi solution (throughput, stability) is maintained
- Manage and maintain the configuration of LRQA’s existing Zscaler deployment, comprising of ZIA, ZPA, ZDX, ZCC et al
- Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues, ensuring high performance and minimal downtime
- Maintain on-premise racked server and network infrastructure, including cabling, uninterruptible power, rack management
- Assist the platform team in cloud-to-onprem networking requirements, such as Site to Site VPNs and routing, up to and including edge networking within Azure (Firewall, NSGs)
- Help create and maintain comprehensive documentation regarding the server and network estate, including high and low level information (diagrams, asset registers)
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide out-of-hours support when required
- Attend sites globally as required, to help maintain on-premise deployments
Technical/Professional Qualifications/Requirements :
- 7+ years of hands-on server and network engineering experience in mid to large global enterprise environments
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in configuring, deploying, supporting and maintaining Zscaler (ZIA, ZPA, ZDX)
- Proven experience with; Cisco, Meraki, Palo Alto, zScaler and Azure – certifications in these areas are highly advantageous (e.g CCNP, Meraki CMNA, PCNSE, ZCCA-IA/ZCCA-PA)
- Strong understanding of network security principles; VPNs, SD-WAN, IPSec, DNS, DHCP, VLANs
- Good understanding of networking protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF, VPN, NAT, ACLs)
- Experience with networking monitoring and performance tools; SolarWinds, Wireshark
- Excellent documentation and communication skills, able to inform at all levels of detail
