Job Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for a 7 month secondment as a band 7 leading our Eye Short Stay Unit (ESSU). This is 4 bedded inpatient unit with a busy day case and pre-assessment service running alongside. It is open 7 days/24 hours per day. The successful candidate would need to be able to support a variety of shifts and be flexible.
We are looking for strong leadership qualities who can support visible leadership, develop the team, ensure high quality patient care, and offer ideas for service improvement/transformation projects.
The successful candidate would work closely with our theatre team to deliver efficiency and maximise theatre utilisation. They would also have close collaboration with the Ophthalmology senior team and matrons working together to support the overall care group needs. This is a very supportive team and care group.
This would be an amazing opportunity for an established leader who is looking to broaden their experience.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- This role requires flexibility to support a 24 hour service.
- Clinical skills including venesection and I.V administration would be beneficial
- Strong leadership skills with ability to think outside the box

Qualifications, Knowledge, And Experience
Essential criteria
- 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
- Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
- Degree or working towards
- Completion of appropriate specialty Course
- Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. Supporting a range of learners in practice Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
- Evidence of clinical leadership ability
- Proven management experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Evidence of utilising evidence in practice
- Expert clinical skills
- Ability to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives
- Ability to work flexible hours and fulfil service requirements
Desirable criteria
- Management Course (or equivalent)
- Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
- Evidence of staff development and succession planning
