Location: The locations for this role are Newport, Titchfield (Fareham), London and Manchester.

We operate a flexible hybrid working model across the UK, with colleagues linked to one of our contractual locations and working between office and remote throughout the week. As part of the hybrid working arrangement there is a 40% minimum office attendance requirement.


Salary: £43,013 - £46,654 (National) / £47,731 - £50,020 (London). Plus a skills allowance of up to £5,000 (non-pensionable and non-contractual) may be payable. Starting salary and level of skills allowance will depend on a technical skills assessment at interview.

Are you a skilled front-end developer with a passion for building accessible, user-focused web applications? We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to join our agile, multi-disciplinary team within the Health and International Directorate.


You'll play a key role in delivering high-impact digital services, guiding teams through tech transitions, and shaping the future of our web platforms. If you're confident with version control (Git), familiar with interactive frameworks, and have an interest in scientific computing, we’d love to hear from you.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development of scalable, secure software solutions
  • Collaborate across disciplines to understand user needs
  • Mentor junior developers and share your expertise
  • Build and maintain continuous delivery pipelines
  • Operate and support live services
  • Improve system resilience and performance
  • Design and execute robust testing strategies


What We’re Looking For

  • Software Engineering: Skilled in designing, coding, testing, and documenting complex applications
  • Testing: Able to apply a range of functional and non-functional testing techniques and communicate results clearly
  • Service Support: Confident in diagnosing and resolving issues, and supporting others
  • Communication: Comfortable translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences and managing stakeholder expectations
