Department Overview
Within the software division of Motorola, our mission is to create solutions which improve public safety and save lives. At our Glasgow software design centre, we create world leading mobile applications to help UK frontline emergency services workers (such as police officers, firefighters and incident commanders) in the moments that matter.
This role is a Senior Software Engineering Manager within Motorola Solutions UK who will report directly to the Motorola’s Director of Mobile Applications (International) within Motorola’s ‘Mobile Applications (International)’ organisation, which is our organisation responsible for all smartphone, tablet, laptop and in-vehicle application solutions used across emergency services worldwide (outside of USA).
Job Description
This role is hybrid, consisting of work from our offices and home, with home-working permitted most of the time and offices being used for meetings and team days. You will ideally be based in and around our Glasgow office.
Our Motorola
Glasgow office is our worldwide centre of excellence for our mobile software development and we would like applicants to be located within commuting distance of this office, however this is a hybrid role where the candidate will have the option to work from home some/most days if preferred – with the office being used for occasional in-person meetings and team days.
In this role, you will be a senior software engineering manager and leader of the team of engineers responsible for developing our mission-critical solutions serving UK fire officers and incident commanders, which currently includes a client application for ruggedised mobile Windows devices, a client application for iOS/Android devices, a server application and a web application. Our existing UK Fire mobile solutions utilise a range of technologies including C#, DELPHI, React and React Native.
In this role, you will be responsible for conducting a review of our existing product components and architecture and designing a plan for modernisation and expansion – of which you will then be responsible for driving the execution through your team of experienced software engineers. This may include improvements to the UI/UX, the addition of further smartphone-based capabilities, or the introduction of AI-based functionality.
We expect this role to be ‘hands on’, with the successful candidate reviewing and potentially also contributing to writing code when required – so we are therefore looking for a software engineering manager who is a highly capable software engineer.
The post holder will work alongside our Product Manager for UK Fire Mobile solutions.
