About The Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time 1 WTE position as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in MSK Lower limb as part of the Physiotherapy team.
As a team, we pride ourselves on our development and positive approach to change, as well as having a flexible and supportive team ethos. We have close working relationships with the ED and T&O MDT, other therapy teams and the wider AHP workforce.
The successful candidate will be required to take a lead role in the delivery of the MSK lower limb physiotherapy service working alongside advanced physiotherapy practitioners and team leaders within this speciality.
This post will play a key role in reviewing pathways for patients within physiotherapy, auditing and developing other team members to deliver a high quality therapy service for patients to ensure best practice.
The post also requires the individual to have excellent clinical knowledge, skills and experience in the assessment and rehabilitation of a wide range of lower limb conditions, post graduate qualifications in a relevant area preferred with relevant CPD essential.
We require the individual to be a team player with excellent communication, organisational, teaching and leadership skills who is committed to facilitating positive change management, developing themselves and the team.
The successful candidate will be required to work across all of our hospital sites within the Trust but will initially be based predominantly at DDH.

Main duties
Clinical Practice
To coordinate Physiotherapy input to patients referred into the Mid Yorkshire Teaching hospitals lower limb service. Referrals are accepted from GP, ED, and Orthopaedic teams both within and outside of the Mid Yorkshire area. This will include hip, knee, foot, ankle, trauma, multi trauma and elective Orthopaedics.
To take a lead role in the delivery of an effective, evidenced based Physiotherapy service for those with lower limb musculoskeletal conditions working alongside Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners within this speciality and the wider lower limb team.
To carry a complex clinical caseload including assessment, management, and rehabilitation of a variety of acute and chronic presentations. This will include ensuring patients are able to return to function, employment, and sport.
To monitor and develop clinical pathways between the in-patient elective orthopaedic and trauma service and cross site outpatient Physiotherapy services to ensure continuity of care.
To work alongside Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners to ensure highly specialist and evidence-based rehabilitation classes and 1:1 sessions for lower limb patients within this speciality to ensure the best possible outcome for patients.
To work with Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners on competencies required to deliver an extended scope Physiotherapy role in an orthopaedic lower limb clinic supervised by consultants and/or APPs - dependent upon skills, training level and service requirements.
Education
To provide highly specialist, evidence-based advice, teaching and supervision to members of the Physiotherapy team, including the wider lower limb team and other colleagues as appropriate.
To collaborate with the lower limb team in developing and delivering the MSK physiotherapy in service training program.
To be involved in/lead problem patient sessions where required.
Leadership
Responsible for the clinical management of the lower limb physiotherapy service, responding to the changing needs of the service including direct staff supervision.
To manage the day-to-day organisation of the gym, including assisting/deputising for the team leader where appropriate.
To participate in managing capacity and demand of the lower limb service cross-site and respond as required.
To act as a representative at both lower limb governance meetings and MSK clinical governance to drive the lower limb service forward.
To produce annual objectives for the team/service in collaboration with the wider lower limb team.
To collaborate with the wider lower limb team to ensure parity of treatment pathways and waiting lists across trust sites.
Evidence, Research and Development
To drive active participation in audit and research within the Physiotherapy team to ensure services provide the best possible outcomes for patients.
To work alongside colleagues in the trauma and orthopaedic department and within therapies to participate in relevant research projects.
To contribute to developing and ensuring completion of annual audit plans for the lower limb service.
Key Requirements
Degree in relevant therapy profession.
Registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Have or be working towards Master’s degree or equivalent.
Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent and relevant postgraduate courses
Clinical Educators Course
Evidence of comprehensive clinical experience.
Experience of relevant clinical setting
Supervision of more junior and support staff and students
