The Role
Oakfield School is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary inreach and outreach team, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).
This is a senior, specialist role with responsibility for leading speech, language and communication provision across the school, embedding trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming practice and working systemically with education staff, families and external professionals.
The successful candidate will play a key role in assessment, intervention, staff training and strategic development, ensuring that speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) are identified early and addressed effectively to support emotional regulation, engagement and reintegration.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and deliver high-quality speech and language therapy assessment and intervention for pupils with SEMH and complex communication needs
• Provide consultative and indirect support, embedding communication-friendly and emotionally regulating environments
• Support pupils’ listening, attention, expressive/receptive language, social communication and emotional literacy
• Contribute to and advise on EHCPs, provision mapping and SEND documentation
• Deliver training, coaching and modelling for school staff to build capacity and confidence
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including senior leaders, pastoral staff and external agencies
• Contribute to service development, policies and outcome monitoring
• Provide professional leadership, including supervision or mentoring where appropriate
About You
We are looking for someone who:
• Is a qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with HCPC and RCSLT
• Has significant experience working with SEMH, neurodiversity and/or complex needs
• Demonstrates strong clinical reasoning, flexibility and reflective practice
• Has experience of systemic working in education settings
• Is confident delivering staff training and whole-school approaches
• Can balance direct therapy with consultative and preventative models
