THE ROLE AND OPPORTUNITY
As a Senior Tax Manager at John Laing Group, you'll provide critical tax support to our investment and asset management teams in the USA, Colombia and Europe (including the UK). This position offers a unique opportunity to act as a trusted partner with those teams, contributing to the success of our global infrastructure projects. You'll engage in a broad range of tax activities, including evaluating tax assumptions for bids, analysing holding structures and reviewing financial models. Your work will play a key role in protecting and enhancing project and shareholder returns. This role is perfect for a self-driven individual looking to deepen their expertise in areas such as transfer pricing and international taxation, while making a significant contribution to our strategic priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Investment Support – Provide comprehensive tax support to investment bidding teams in the USA, Colombia and Europe (including the UK) evaluating tax assumptions, analysing holding structures with a focus on withholding taxes and cash repatriation, reviewing external tax advice and financial models, drafting investment approval documentation, and ensuring tax risks are clearly understood, communicated, and mitigated where possible.
· Asset Management Support – Collaborate closely with local asset management and finance teams to manage tax risk and ensure that the project and group remain compliant with its local compliance obligations. This would include providing support on project disposals, tax audits/enquiries, and refinancings.
· Transfer Pricing: Maintain the group's transfer pricing master file.
· Group Projects: Assist with significant group projects covering a range of region-specific or international tax issues.
· Technical Research: Produce technical research and analysis papers as required.
· Stakeholder Relationships: Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders alongside other functions.
· Tax Legislation: Stay updated on tax legislation and regulatory changes to ensure compliance.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE
Required:
• Excellent tax knowledge and international tax experience required, including a good working knowledge of taxation in various jurisdictions (ideally the USA and Europe).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an analytical/problem-solving approach to dealing with tax technical issues.
• Excellent planning, time management, and organisational skills.
• Demonstrable expertise in applying technical tax skills to a variety of different scenarios (including structuring and tax due diligence).
• Ability to work as part of the tax team collaboratively and with the wider and larger group.
• Qualified Tax Accountant (CTA/ACCA/ACA or other equivalent) with adequate corporate tax experience.
• Ability to convey complex tax concepts clearly and concisely to non-specialists.
• Strong analytical skills to identify issues and develop practical solutions.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments.
Preferred:
· Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements.
· Experience with infrastructure investments
· Proficiency in financial software and tools.
