About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Accounting Manager to join the Reporting team. Reporting to the Head of Group Statutory Reporting, this role is responsible for providing high-quality technical accounting guidance across the Group, ensuring compliance with IFRS and supporting robust, consistent external reporting.

You will act as the Group’s technical accounting expert, advising on complex transactions, monitoring and implementing new and revised accounting standards, and supporting senior management with clear, practical technical insights. Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager, Statutory Reporting, you will help ensure technical accounting considerations are fully reflected in statutory and external reporting.

This role is also heavily involved in key projects and business change initiatives, supporting the integrity of the balance sheet and ensuring accounting implications are understood and appropriately applied.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Accounting & IFRS Expertise

• Prepare, review and present technical accounting papers, clearly explaining complex matters to senior management and finance teams
• Provide consistent, practical technical accounting guidance and recommendations across the Group
• Act as the first point of contact for IFRS and Group accounting policy queries from across the business
• Manage auditor engagement on technical accounting matters and queries
• Support Audit Committee engagement, including preparation of technical papers and senior management briefings

Group Accounting Manual

• Own the production, maintenance and regular update of the Group Accounting Manual
• Draft and update guidance on complex and judgement-based accounting areas, ensuring alignment with current standards and best practice

New Standards & Regulatory Change (IFRS, CSRD, IFRS S1 & S2)

• Support the coordination and implementation of new and amended accounting standards and interpretations
• Lead detailed technical analysis and impact assessments, working with relevant teams to ensure smooth implementation
• Prepare high-quality technical papers for senior management and the Audit Committee

Business Change & Projects

• Provide technical accounting support for significant projects, transactions and business changes, including acquisitions, disposals, new contracts and evolving business models
• Ensure accounting implications are fully considered and appropriately reflected in financial reporting

Impairment, Going Concern & Viability

• Lead the Group’s annual impairment review process, coordinating inputs, preparing robust documentation and liaising with external auditors
• Oversee the preparation of going concern and viability statements, ensuring sound analysis and strong governance

Training & Knowledge Sharing

• Design and deliver training sessions and workshops to enhance technical accounting knowledge across finance and the wider business

Stakeholder Engagement

• Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Finance, Legal and Commercial teams, embedding technical accounting considerations into decision-making

Team Leadership

• Manage and develop a direct report within the technical accounting function, providing coaching, guidance and development opportunities

Wider Support

• Provide ad hoc technical accounting support to the Head of Group Statutory Reporting, contributing to wider reporting and finance initiatives as required

About you

You are a technically strong finance professional with a passion for accounting standards, clear communication, and practical problem-solving in a complex, fast-paced environment.

You will bring:

• A recognised accounting qualification
• Recent, in-depth technical accounting experience with strong IFRS expertise (IFRS 16 experience desirable)
• Proven ability to resolve complex accounting issues using sound judgement and a commercial mindset
• Experience operating in large, complex, listed or global organisations
• A strong controls mindset, ideally with experience in SOX or similar frameworks
