Opportunity Overview
The role of 0.4FTE Senior Technician in Biomedical Science is key to ensuring that students within SSEE can receive the best student experience possible in the degree programmes that encompass biomedical sciences. As well as supporting students from other degree programmes where required. The post-holder will have responsibility for facilitating the effective delivery of teaching and practical sessions, alongside maintaining associated specialist equipment and project resources. The role will include the supervision, training, and support of project and T-level students, alongside responsibility for the training of colleagues supporting in this area. They will contribute and provide specialist advice to develop laboratory processes and to enhance the laboratory experience for all users. The role also includes active involvement in teaching sessions that use human or animal blood (including blood products) and deceased animal specimens (including whole organs), and the post-holder must be comfortable handling these materials in a respectful and professional manner whilst following appropriate biosafety and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the wider technical team to ensure that all laboratory facilities are maintained to a high standard of safety, organisation, efficiency, and sustainability.

The School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SSEE) is a large multi-disciplinary School comprising around 400 staff, including around 50 highly skilled technicians and approximately 4500 students studying on a range of taught and research programmes at BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, MPhil and PhD level. SSEE embraces subjects as diverse as Zoology, Parasitology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Biomedical Science, Architecture and Construction Management, in a range of locations on the Peel Park campus.
