JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Trading Standards Officer, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding public interests by enforcing trading standards legislation. Based within the Quality Standards and Animal Health team, you will have a focus on food standards, weights and measure, product safety, animal health and/or feeding stuffs. You will be responsible for investigating complaints, conducting inspections, and taking action against any breaches of regulations. Your work will help to maintain a safe and fair marketplace for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate complaints related to consumer protection and fair trading.
- Conduct inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with trading standards laws.
- Provide advice and support to businesses on regulatory requirements.
- Take enforcement action, including issuing notices and prosecuting offenders if necessary.
- Collaborate with other agencies and stakeholders to address complex issues.
- Keep up to date with changes in legislation and best practices.
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
This position will be subject to a basic criminal record disclosure check.
