Job Purpose

As a Financial Lines Underwriter you will form part of a team that focus on developing our regional/international professional indemnity portfolio. You will carry out risk selection, analysis, and pricing of new and renewal policies, as well as negotiate the insurance terms and conditions with brokers and insureds as well as finalizing insurance documentation. You will be key in helping build profitable relationships with brokers and insureds and your role will fully support and comply with the company’s objectives and standards

Key Responsibilities

• Negotiate with brokers, cultivate and maintain those broker relationships
• Follow underwriting guidelines and submit underwriting, pricing and negotiation recommendations to the Underwriting Manager.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities
• Manage and grow the book of business in a profitable manner
• Coordinate and/or participate in special projects as required
• Attend off-site conferences, trade shows, seminars and meetings as required
• Develop an in-depth understanding of the portfolio, broker and market structure, and be able to develop new business in accordance with company objectives

Performance Objectives

• Clear self-managed ability to underwrite general PI risks, knowledge of the major distribution networks, efficient administration and desire to work as part of a team.
• Have the ability to propose solutions and general new business leads and ideas.
• To progress tounderwriting more significant risks profitably – knowing the best position to deploy capacity. Support the CPI manager with underwriting and team development.
• Demonstrate risk selection, underwriting method and ability to choose appropriate capacity and attachment points through quote to bind stage. Hunger for profitable growth with a strong broker following

Essential

Skills and Experience Specification:

• Ideally 5-8 years experience in a similar position within professional indemnity/financial lines
• Well developed IT skills
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to work well in a team and build strong relationships with colleagues and/or clients
• Willingness to learn/proactive approach/ takes ownership
• Degree level education

Desirable

• London Market/ Lloyd’s experience
• Existing broker relationships
