A member of the ESG Directorate, responsible for security vetting and arrangements, ensuring compliance with customer and UK legislative requirements



Key Responsibilities

  • Own the development and delivery of security screening and vetting processes in line with UK legislative requirements
  • Manage the performance of the NSV process, overseeing caseloads of Vetting Officer(s), assess validity of vetting applications to ensure delivery of a timely and efficient service
  • Manage complex or contentious cases to deliver appropriate risk-based vetting decisions
  • Arrange and facilitate applicant interviews to clarify information, examine documentation and ensure rationale of vetting decisions
  • Be knowledgeable in the latest policy and legislation, ensuring team members have correct awareness of vetting practices
  • Represent NPL at relevant meetings, including the NPL Personnel Security Working Group, exchanging information and contribute to the ongoing maintenance of vetting procedures
  • Oversee aftercare incidents and develop aftercare management processes ensuring validity of NSV Clearances
  • Perform duties of Corporate STRAPSO providing oversight of NPL’s high risk, high reward operations
  • Support wider Security team deliverables as necessary
  • Responsible for taking reasonable duty of care for Health & Safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work and always follow direct instructions given with regards to Health & Safety


It’s likely that you’ve had experience of handling complex vetting issues and developing processes and procedures to support the wider security function. You have worked as part of a wider team but can also manage and co-ordinate your own workload. What’s more you will be pragmatic, detail-focussed and an excellent communicator. Beyond that, we’re looking for someone who’ll thrive in an environment like ours.


Essential skills and attributes include

  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management
  • Strong organisation skills and able to work towards deadlines
  • Experience of overseeing and managing a vetting function and developing relevant associated policy documentation and procedures
  • Experience of delivering aftercare methodologies ensuring the through-life integrity of the clearance
  • Uses discretion, integrity and sensitivity when managing confidential security matters
  • Be adaptable, driven, and autonomous with a Can-do attitude Strong organisational skills, able to work towards deadlines and balance conflicting priorities.
  • Hold membership of a relevant body or association such as DISA or the Security Institute Due to the nature of the role, the post holder must have or be able to achieve DV Clearance.
