Are you an experienced leader in children's social care, looking for an exciting new opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and families? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Service Lead for Family Help and Safeguarding to work within our Children and Family Services, reporting to the Service Director for Children’s Social Care.

The Role

As the Service Lead for Family Help and Safeguarding, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing the Family Help and Safeguarding Service, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, effective services to children and families.
  • Working collaboratively with other service leads to ensure integrated and coordinated approaches to safeguarding and family support.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, regulations, and national standards in relation to children's social care.
  • Providing strong leadership and line management to a team of dedicated professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Overseeing the effective operation of the service, including resource management, budgetary control, and performance monitoring.
  • Building positive relationships with key stakeholders, including children, families, and external partners.
  • Contributing to the overall strategic leadership and direction of children's services within the Council.

  • The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

    • Extensive experience and knowledge of children's social care, with a strong background in safeguarding and family support.
    • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to deliver high-quality services.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for children and families.
    • In-depth understanding of relevant legislation, statutory requirements, and national standards in children's social care.
    • A commitment to continuous professional development and staying up-to-date with current issues and best practices in the field.
