We have an exciting vacancy within the high dependency unit at DPOW hospital. The are provides care for up to seven patients requiring a high level of care with critical care needs. The unit works closely with the ITU and whilst the role is primarily on HDU the successful candidate would be expected to work across both areas as needed.
The successful candidate will have a professional, caring and enthusiastic attitude. They will have experience as a health care assistant within an acute hospital setting and have undertaken a relevant NVQ at level 2.
The successful candidate will be expected to assist nursing staff in the care of up to 7 critically unwell patients.
- Assist patients in achieving their personal care needs e.g. with washing and toileting
- Assist patients achieve excellent nutrition e.g. completing menus and advising on healthy options, serving meals, assisting them to eat.
- Aid patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals
- To maintain the highest possible standards of compassionate and professional patient centered care with particular attention to privacy and dignity.
- Assist in skin and pressure area care to prevent pressure ulcers developing. Under the supervision of registered nurses, ensure patients are helped to move position to prevent discomfort and / or pressure ulcers developing.
- Making sure patients are comfortable
- Helping patients move around
- Keeping departments tidy and ensuring equipment is clean
- Ensure adequate stocking of the unit and assist in ordering of stock.
- Take on link nurse roles alongside a trained member of staff

- Utilise appropriate moving and handling equipment to reduce the risk of injury to the patient and themselves.
- Communicate any changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse
