About The Role
Coombes Croft is a 3 bedded accessible and equipped children’s home, it provides specialist overnight respite care for children aged 8-18 with a learning disability, physical disability and complex needs. Respite care at Coombes Croft will provide a lifeline for families, giving parents some much needed space and time, helping them to recharge and the chance to have a short break from providing full-time care and support care to their child. The Deputy Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our Short Break Home. As the deputy, the role involves close collaboration with the Registered Manager to create a nurturing and supportive environment for the children in our care. The responsibilities encompass both administrative/managerial tasks and direct interaction with the children and young people, monitoring individual care plans, health needs, organising staff and coordinating daily activities in the home.
About You
The ideal candidate will hold qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 or 4, a Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), and possess strong knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations (2015), Ofsted frameworks, and the Social Care Common Inspection Framework. With at least three years’ experience in residential settings at management level, they’ll bring an in-depth understanding of operational service delivery, compliance, and partnership working across statutory and voluntary sectors. This leadership role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to motivate and manage staff teams, and a proactive approach to mentoring and development. Candidates should be Team Teach trained—or willing to be trained—and demonstrate experience in building effective relationships with stakeholders including families, social workers, health professionals, and external agencies. Strong organisational skills, creative thinking, and a commitment to best outcomes for children are essential, alongside the ability to lead performance management processes and contribute to wider strategic policies.
