We’re looking for a Site Supervisor – Substations to join our Power T&D team and help deliver a critical part of the UK’s infrastructure. Based in Norwich, this role is key to the successful delivery of our Norwich Substations project.

Its Essential that previous experience of the construction and delivery of Overhead Line, Cabling or Substation schemes up to 400kV

What you'll be doing

  • Assist the Engineer in carrying out weekly inspections of all plant, lifting equipment and recording on the appropriate forms.
  • Ensure Permit to Work near Existing Services documentation is clearly and correctly carried out for all ground breaking activities related to construction works.
  • Ensure the Engineer has all necessary information to arrange on site security as required.
  • Ensure site records are handed over to the Engineer for final records to be produced in a timely manner
  • Ensure Balfour Beatty’s Code of Conduct is thoroughly understood, adhered to and promoted across the business to ensure safe, compliant and consistent working practices
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of others who may be affected by your actions or omissions whilst at work.
  • Leadership of Zero Harm and drive for continuous improvement across SHEQ within projects
  • Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all persons under your control.
  • Do not recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare.
  • Do not undertake any safety critical work activity or activity for which a specific competence is required, unless you have received the necessary training/instruction and/or assessment and hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work. Do not instruct others to undertake such work if they do not hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work.
  • Review the scope of works to be carried out with the Project Manager and/or Site Engineers, identifying and agreeing safe systems of work to be employed.
  • Review method statements and risk assessments that are specific to construction activities and assist in compiling the Work packs ensuring they contain all relevant information
  • Arrange that all operatives in the gangs are given site inductions prior to any site activities starting and daily briefings prior to commencing any activity.
  • Liaise with Engineers on environmental issues regarding SSSI, Flora and Fauna, Archaeological impacts etc.
  • Ensure that accidents and incidents are promptly reported, giving accurate details established at the time of the incident.
  • Supervise the Foremen and operatives on a daily basis, establishing and communicating the methods of work to be employed in carrying out the construction operations, assisting with resources requirements and movements of operatives on the project, to deliver the safe, smooth and efficient running of the Contract.
  • Assist the Safety Department to investigate accidents, incidents and near misses
  • Liaise with the Project Manager and/or Site Engineer to ensure a timely requisition for sufficient plant and equipment is made, giving adequate notice to Resources.
  • Ensure that all externally sourced services (Trak way, footbridges etc) are in place prior to site activities starting.
  • Be responsible for the operatives time sheets being filled in correctly, showing the daily progress, operatives names, rates, works numbers, hours worked, plant and vehicles (hired and BB owned) utilised and work carried out.

Who we're looking for

The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential

  • Previous experience of the construction and delivery of Overhead Line, Cabling or Substation schemes up to 400kV
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Ability to lead, develop and motivate a team for success
  • Holds a current driving license

The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable

  • Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and financial control
  • Good understanding of current safety legislation

The Candidate Is Likely To Have The Following

  • Holds CSCS and SSSTS or Equivalent
