About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to join a major government programme, driving the development of accessible, compliant, and scalable solutions using modern technologies. You will play a key role in shaping engineering practices, mentoring team members, and ensuring adherence to organisational and government standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead software development ways of working and promote engineering best practices.

Develop accessible and compliant UI using Government Design System principles.

Deploy solutions in Azure and AWS environments.

Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines and administer GitLab.

Conduct horizon scanning and tech spikes to assess emerging technologies.

Mentor junior team members and own technical onboarding processes.

Foster collaboration through pair programming and cross-team engagement.

Drive adoption of standards and best practices across teams.

Ensure compliance with organisational and government standards.

Essential Skills & Experience

Strong proficiency in JavaScript and React.
Experience with Government Design System for accessible UI design.
Hands-on experience deploying in Azure and AWS.
Expertise in CI/CD pipeline setup and GitLab administration.
Ability to lead engineering practices and mentor others.

Strong collaboration skills, including pair programming.

Desirable Skills

Ability to architect reusable frameworks for rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept development.
Understanding of security requirements for cloud sandboxes.
Experience delivering technical workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Familiarity with agile methodologies for managing evolving requirements.
Supporting security reviews and compliance for cloud-based solutions.
