Software Engineer (Frontend)

Location: Remote (UK-based) – ad hoc travel may be required

Engagement: Permanent or 12-month Fixed Term Contract (FTC)

Security Clearance: Must be BPSS eligible

The Role

We are looking for a skilled Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team. You will work on UK central government digital services, building accessible, high-quality frontend applications using modern JavaScript frameworks.

This role suits someone comfortable working in agile, multidisciplinary teams and passionate about clean code, test-driven development, and inclusive design.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain frontend applications using Vue.js

(or React, with willingness to pick up Vue.js and Nuxt quickly)

Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested JavaScript code

Apply Test Driven Development (TDD) practices, including unit testing and content verification testing

Build accessible user interfaces in line with WCAG and GDS standards

Collaborate with designers, backend engineers, QA, and product managers in agile delivery teams

Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement

Support delivery of services that meet UK central government standards and best practices

Essential Skills & Experience

Strong experience with JavaScript
Commercial experience with Vue.js or React, with the ability to quickly learn Vue.js and Nuxt
Experience working with Test Driven Development
Proven experience developing accessible frontends
Experience delivering projects for UK central government
Familiarity with agile delivery environments (Scrum/Kanban)

Ability to work remotely with occasional travel when required

BPSS eligibility

Desirable Skills

Strong knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards
Experience with Nuxt.js
Experience with content verification testing
Familiarity with GDS Design System and service standards
