Optiver is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Developer Excellence team in London, with a focus on building the tools and platforms that power developer workflows. This role will play a critical part in creating a high-quality developer environment that enhances how our engineers write, build, and test code every day.
We’re looking for a strong engineer with a passion for improving developer experience, an awareness of modern tooling and workflows, and a track record of identifying and implementing high-impact productivity improvements. What you’ll do:
- Create ready-to-use local development environments for use across projects and teams, that reduce friction and accelerate onboarding;
- Explore and support the integration of AI-assisted tools and AI coding agents into daily development workflows;
- Build and maintain tools that make the develop–build–test loop faster and more seamless — including IDE extensions, CLI tools, and container-based workflows;
- Contribute to the design and maintenance of common build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and Docker images used across the company;
- Define and build metrics that help us measure and understand developer productivity, and use these insights to guide future work;
- Partner with development teams to identify friction in their workflows and design solutions that simplify their setup, improve iteration speed, and enhance productivity;
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging tools in the developer experience space, helping guide our adoption of best-in-class solutions.

- Have strong engineering instincts and a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals;
- Experienced writing software in Python with a proven ability to deliver scalable, reliable, high-quality code, and experience across other languages like C++ and C#;
- Hold a deep understanding of the end-to-end lifecycle of software development from ideation to deployment;
- Familiar with source code platforms like GitHub and has built tooling and workflows with them to improve developer experience.
- Experienced in defining, capturing, and leveraging developer productivity metrics to inform priorities and measure impact;
- Passionate about improving the developer experience, with a proven track record of initiating and successfully driving developer productivity improvements at scale.
