Job Type: Full-Time onsite
Due to the customer requirements successful applicants must be eligible for high level UK Security clearance, SC and be able to work onsite in Farnborough.
The Advanced Mission Planning Aid (AMPA) provides mission planning capabilities across a wide array of fixed wing platforms. The product has a proven delivery record to both the client as well as export customers around the world. The product comprises both common capabilities and customer / aircraft specific capabilities.
The AMPA product family is well established and the majority of development work on the account is in the form of incremental change to mature software components.
The Software Engineering Lead (SEL) works collaboratively with, and takes direction from, the Software Engineering Team Lead (SETL) to manage the Software Team backlog. This includes preparing backlog items such that they are ready for selection and inclusion in team Sprint Backlogs.
As members of the Design Office, SELs work with the Product Design Authority to ensure that the technical solution / design implemented for the project aligns with the overall product technical direction, and with the Compliance Verification Engineer to ensure that all changes are implemented in accordance with a Quality Management System that reflects the Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Articles. The SEL also seeks to apply appropriate tools and methods to increase productivity and accuracy.
The SEL is part of the software engineering team and reports directly to the Software Engineering Team Lead.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Identification of tasks within the overall Team Backlog that can be included in specific Sprint Backlogs and overseeing delivery of those tasks in accordance with the defined acceptance criteria and in compliance with Air QMS policies and procedures
- Working with the Project Technical Authorities to ensure that the scope of work, estimated effort level, required completion dates, and acceptance criteria associated with each backlog task are fully understood
- Working with the Scrum Masters to monitor completion of Sprint Backlog tasks within the assigned sprint
- Acting as the escalation point for Scrum Masters to assist with the removal of sprint task blockers where possible
- Facilitating the flow of information between project and development teams, understanding and communicating project priorities and actively motivating the software teams
- Coordinating tasks with Support Functions as necessary to ensure completion of sprint tasks
- Observing Sprint Planning and Retrospective meetings and ensuring that any lessons learned are recorded
- Providing progress reports to PMs both at the end of a Sprint and when requested
Essential Skills
- Experience of working in all aspects of the software lifecycle
- The ability to coordinate and collaborate with project technical leads and software teams members in order to provide reasoned detailed estimates with corresponding assessments of dependencies, assumptions and risks
- Suitability to obtain UK SC Security Clearance
Desirable Skills
- Experience of the design and development of software in compliance with Software Safety and Security Standards
- The ability to conduct design, code and unit test inspections, reviews, and walkthroughs
- Knowledge of development in C/C++ on Linux
- Experience of tools such as Rational ClearCase and ClearQuest, DOORS and ALM
- Experience of defence and/or air industry process and standards
