About The Role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Solution Architect to join our team working across the UK and offshore. This means that the opportunities to make an impact are almost endless.
Your experience and ideas will help change the way our industry works.
We are looking to upgrade our core systems with purpose – as well as maximising our productivity across the back office, we want to aggressively build out digital solutions into resource and logistics management underpinned by financial, commercial and
procurement improvements. We need energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate individuals to be the bridge between our business and technical teams to help
meet ambitious outcomes. You will have the flexibility to be based at any of our main office locations, and you’ll become a well-known face on our key contracts including Sizewell C, HS2, CPS M25, and Smart Motorway projects amongst many others.
The role reports to the Lead Solution Architect, will be embedded with our technical teams, and works with colleagues across IT and business teams. The Strategy & Projects team includes Business Analysts, Solution Architects and Project Managers.
What you'll be doing
We are looking for a Solution Architect who will be:

- Producing appropriate design outputs to support our technical delivery teams and help us ensure we able to offer improved levels of service.
- Communicating with a variety of business and technology stakeholders, including digital, engineering, and technical teams, to help with the delivery of IT projects and meet business objectives, and producing designs and associated documentation to the highest standards.
- Able to support our business’ bidding and mobilisation of contracts by engaging and explaining our current capabilities, thinking laterally and creatively on how to meet client needs, and develop narratives around digital innovation.
- Supporting the ongoing move of archaic systems into the cloud for more efficiency within the organisation, as part of our digital transformation. Transferring data and internal processes to cloud architecture.
- Helping to answer operational and cultural challenges of a highly mobile workforce with requirements to consume services securely from corporate devices across the UK 24 x 7.
- Keeping up to date on best practices and recommending improvements to our services.
- Making hardware and software implementation and deployment recommendations, as part of contributing to higher level architecture and strategy, peer reviewing content, and developing our long-term roadmaps.
Who we're looking for
- Experience designing, building, deploying, and maintaining business applications and infrastructure. You'll have designed and built solutions and considered factors such as cloud and other infrastructures, data, and other architectures.
- You'll have 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying, and have experience of at least one of the following: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft O365, OCI, or GCP, and likely have associated Professional Solutions Architect certifications.
- Ideally, but not essential, have delivered complex solutions within a multi-supplier, multi-year, and/or multi-release environment.
We are also interested if you have knowledge or experience of:

- The GDPR (2018) regulations and the impact regarding the retention of Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Embedding security services/tooling within solution designs and knowledge of protecting data from new and emerging threats.

- Automation services such as Infrastructure as Code, Service Orchestration.
- Networking principles including Next Generation Firewall technologies, Load Balancers, Routing/switching and the segregation of services.
- Bidding and other client-side support activities, to ensure we plan for and mobilise the right technologies with our operational
and client teams, responding innovatively to niche or bespoke client needs.
