When things go wrong, or if something is not right we need to ensure that we look to improve our systems, activities or relationships. It is important that we all feel able to speak up and stop potential harm or negative experiences from occurring. When things are good, but could be better, we should feel able to speak confidently and raise a suggestion for improvement. Speak Up Safely Guardians provide that direction to support teams and individuals to speak up safely
We are looking for a Speak Up Safely Guardian to join our Speak up Safely Lead Guardian, you will be instrumental in implementing the Trust wide vision and action plan for the Speaking Up Safely national framework. You will support the delivery of a psychologically safe and inclusive speak up culture within the Trust
Experience as a Freedom to Speak Up/ Speaking Up Safely Guardian or of managing complex employee relations/complaints with a high level of knowledge about the Speak Up process is essential for this role
Building excellent relationships with employees and volunteers alike, you will have the ability to deal with potentially challenging, complex situations of a sensitive nature. You will be a confident communicator with excellent people skills, with the ability to show empathy, reassurance and appreciation to those raising concerns.
The Speak Up Safely Guardian will operate independently, impartially and objectively whilst working in partnership with the Trust. The Guardian will support colleagues to speak up when they feel that they are unable to do so by other routes, ensuring appropriate actions take place and challenging where necessary.
The Role Will Assist In
- Delivering the NHS Wales Speaking Up Safely Framework and its principles and support Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust (WAST) with achieving Welsh Government compliance of the framework.
- Facilitating mechanisms for employees to raise concerns openly or anonymously, and with confidence.
- Implementation of the Trust wide strategic vision and long-term action place for Speaking Up Safely (SUS).
Drive activities that will support positive action towards creating a culture of speaking up safely and engage with key stakeholders to ensure they are included in this work.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
