A key operational arm of HSE, Energy Division (ED) regulates the UK’s Offshore Oil and Gas Industry, pipelines, mines, diving and renewable sector. We employ around 140 professional engineers and scientists to do this. Energy Division has a front-line team of Human Factors Specialist Inspectors who are primarily involved with regulating Offshore Oil and Gas Installations. Over time it is anticipated there will be an increasing amount of NetZero related work (e.g. carbon capture and storage and floating wind turbines).

Essential Skills And Criteria
Substantial knowledge and practical experience of undertaking HF work in the offshore, or other major accident hazard industry, specifically in the management of health and safety risks.
Practical experience of applying the principles of HF to engineering design or modification projects.
Practical experience of assessing human reliability, both qualitatively and quantitively, in the context of major accident risk assessments.
Practical experience of using HF methods for example, in the management of workload, fatigue, procedures, workplace assessments, staffing levels, organisational change, critical communications and investigation.
Interact at ease with personnel from offshore operational level to senior management during inspections and investigations; and work with other technical disciplines within HSE and duty holders at all levels.
Network and communicate effectively as part of a team and present to technical audiences on offshore human factors topics.
Put together reasoned and evidenced arguments, verbally and in writing.
Represent HSE as an expert within offshore related stakeholder groups.
Travel and Working Patterns
This is a full-time role and, you will be required to spend periods of time offshore, including overnight stays, approximately 6 - 8 times a year. On occasion this could include working outside of normal core working hours, and could involve unplanned visits at relatively short notice, including weekends, early check-ins and late returns from offshore inspections. You should ensure that your working pattern can accommodate these requirements.
You will travel from Aberdeen by helicopter or marine access to offshore installations, and floating production and non-production installations, for anything from one to four days at a time and will spend on average 2 to 3-night stays offshore (subject to weather), all within a small multi-discipline team.
When not working offshore or on site, your office attendance would be in accordance with HSE’s Hybrid Working Policy.
Regular travel to Aberdeen and other HSE offices for training and meetings will also be required and this can require overnight stays.
Location
This role can be based in any of the advertised locations however, the preferred location is Aberdeen as the majority of work will be from Aberdeen but there may also be some offshore travel from other locations in England.
Medical Requirements
You must be able to pass the OEUK approved offshore medical & OPITO approved survival training requirements (BOSIET/MIST).
Licences
Full driving license that permits driving within the UK. However, we are willing to consider any proposals put forward by applicants without a licence that would allow them to do the job by other means. In that case, please select yes and provide details elsewhere.
Qualifications
A degree in Human Factors or Ergonomics
OR;
A degree in an engineering subject or psychology AND a relevant post graduate qualification in Human Factors, Ergonomics or Occupational Psychology.

Registered member of the Chartered Institute for Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) or;
