Job Description

This is an opportunity to work on Advance, an exciting stewardship initiative focussed on human rights and social issues, alongside some of the most influential investors and leaders across financial markets. Join a global and motivated Stewardship team that works to deliver substantial real change in our global economy, society and the environment.

This position will work on Advance, which is part of the broader PRI flagship human rights programme and aims to maximize investor collective contribution to the global goal of respect for human rights through their stewardship activities.

The PRI’s Stewardship team is responsible for:

• Coordinating collaborative investor engagement activities on environmental, social, and governance issues with companies, and defining and providing guidance on best practice stewardship

Stewardship is one of the most powerful mechanisms by which investors and their agents can contribute to the achievement of the PRI’s mission: the creation of a sustainable financial system that benefits the environment and society as a whole. The role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to work that will encourage and enable PRI signatories to fully realise the potential of stewardship to drive real-world outcomes on topics that are part of the broader human rights agenda.

This role will primarily support the PRI’s stewardship activities on human rights and social issues, with a particular focus on Advance. This is an investor initiative that acts as a platform encompassing a broad range of social issues and that seeks to allow investors to prioritise the most severe human rights risks and outcomes within their stewardship activities.

The role will report into the Head of Stewardship, Human Rights and Social Issues, who oversees Advance.

Core Responsibilities

• Coordinate company engagement groups across the Renewables sector
• Convene and facilitate regular engagement group meetings/calls to track the progress of engagements, discuss issues and share information.
• Contribute to other initiative-wide projects (as needed), such as sector work/research, signatory accountability, webinars, progress report, etc.
• Conduct and/or disseminate relevant company/sector research, guidance, and other analysis for investors to use in company engagements both within and beyond the PRI collaborative stewardship initiative on human rights and social issues
• Work closely with other PRI engagement staff to ensure that various initiatives (both inside and outside of Advance) are aligned and coordinated.
• Build relationships with investors to maintain and expand expertise of engagement practices, best practices and needs.
• Build relationships with stakeholders in the business and human rights space to inform investors’ expectations and create channels of communication between the investor group and relevant stakeholders, including right-holders
• Speak publicly at events, both digital and in person, on the PRI collaborative stewardship initiative on human rights and social issues, on stewardship, and the PRI’s work more generally.

Person Specification

• Investor and/or company engagement experience: good knowledge of responsible investment, stewardship, and understanding of asset owner and investment manager perspectives is preferred.
• Experience of working on social issues and human rights-related issues is preferred. Regional and/or sector knowledge, especially around Renewables, is also beneficial.
• Good project management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritise, and manage multiple timelines.
• Strong facilitation skills. Diplomacy, tact, and the ability to build consensus.
• Good networking, relationship management, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders from varying cultures and backgrounds.
• A collaborative and consultative approach to working with others.
• Good knowledge of relevant IT (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and CRM software).
• Excellent written communication and verbal presentation skills
• Willingness and ability to travel, including internationally
