Clinical duties
The successful candidate will work as a doctor in all areas of the ED. They will be responsible for the initial assessment and management of acutely unwell and injured patients who present or are referred to the RUH Emergency Department. They will work alongside the multi-disciplinary team in the Emergency Department to provide excellent care to patients of all ages. They will have protected non-clinical time to continue their professional development and pursue relevant educational and governance activities. They will have an allocated educational supervisor and access to study leave and study budget
Managerial
To be responsible to the Departmental Consultants and Clinical Lead. To undertake all necessary administration duties associated with the care of patients.
General requirements
Subject to the provisions of the 2021 Specialty Doctor Terms and Conditions of Service, the post holder will be expected to observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters and to follow the standing orders, financial instructions and code of expectations of the Trust.
Main duties of the job
Working in the ED with direct shop floor supervision from our 20 consultants, 1 consultant nurse, alongside 9 experienced ED middle grades, 3 Advanced Nurse Practitioners and 30 SHOs. The post offers protected weekly departmental teaching and benefits from educational supervision by a consultant as well as many other educational opportunities on shift. A typical day may see you involved in Stroke Thrombolysis, PPCI for STEMI, Major Trauma (as a busy trauma unit) and Acute Paediatrics as well as Minor Injuries.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice (1, for registration only, 2 for both)
- Completed a minimum of four years full time postgraduate training with at least two within Emergency Medicine.
Desirable criteria
- ALS, APLS and/or ATLS
- MRCEM or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Completed a minimum of four years full time postgraduate training with at least two within Emergency Medicine. (1 point = 2 years, 2 points more))
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in NHS or equivalent healthcare system (1 equivalent, 2 NHS)
- Experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine
- Experience in managing critically unwell adult patients
Dedication to speciality
Essential criteria
- Evidence of dedication to emergency medicine
