Job Overview
Our Coronary care unit (CCU) is a 10 bedded high acuity cardiology unit. We care for patients who have acute coronary syndrome, myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, heart failure and arrhythmias. We work closely with Cardiac intervention unit to support a 24-hour primary PCI service for STEMI patients.
You will gain skills in caring for patients which are pre and post coronary intervention, patients requiring IABP or NIV and patients requiring inotropic support for cardiogenic shock and temporary pacing wires. You will have the opportunity to participate in the cardiac procedures like angiograms, angioplasties, pacemakers, pericardiocentesis and DC cardioversions.
Main duties of the job
To provide high standards care for the patients
- To ensure confidentiality of patient records
- To participate in on-going clinical supervision and audits.
- To Provide specialist advice in Cardiac procedures and support in the promotion of health.
- To practice extended clinical roles e.g. venepuncture, cannulation, IV additives and male catheterisation.
- To be able to provide care to level 2 patients by developing skills in intra-aortic balloon pumping, inotrope therapy, continuous positive airway pressure, invasive blood pressure monitoring, arrhythmia management, temporary pacing, arterial sheath management.
- Be involved in primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) service activation. And be involved in pre, peri and post care of those patients.
- To be able to assist in the cardiac procedures like angiograms, angioplasties, pacemakers, pericardiocentesis and DC cardioversions.
