- Drive Technical Excellence: Set and uphold high standards for software quality, code readability, testing, and performance.
- Lead by Influence: Guide teams through technical ambiguity, champion best practices, and support architectural decision-making across squads.
- Mentor and Support: Partner with engineering managers to mentor engineers, elevate technical talent, and foster a culture of technical ownership.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Product, Design, and Ops to deliver pragmatic, aligned solutions that meet customer needs.
- Tackle Technical Debt: Identify bottlenecks and proactively improve system architecture and development processes.
- Elevate Engineering Strategy: Help shape the long-term technical roadmap and contribute to platform evolution, tooling, and observability.
What They’re Looking For:
- Proven experience leading large-scale, complex technical projects in a production environment.
- 3+ years of experience in a Staff Engineering role, within a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Expertise in system architecture, distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure (AWS or GCP), and event-driven design patterns.
- Strong programming ability in at least one core language (e.g. Node.js, Python, Go, Java, TypeScript).
- Experience with CI/CD workflows, DevOps practices, and performance optimisation.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, and knowledge of how to choose the right tool for the job.
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills; comfortable navigating ambiguity.
- A track record of driving technical decisions with long-term sustainability in mind.
Bonus if you bring:
- Experience working in fintech, fast-paced regulated environments, or investment platforms
- Knowledge of observability stacks and incident response processes
- Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (e.g. React) for full-system context
- Exposure to security-first design or data protection practices
