Brief Description

Be at the Centre of It All

King’s Cross is one of the busiest, most high-profile railway stations in the UK — serving millions of passengers and connecting five train operating companies.

We’re looking for a calm, confident, and proactive Station Control Assistant to help us keep the station safe, connected, and running smoothly. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love solving problems under pressure, and want to be part of a professional, tight-knit team — we want to hear from you.

About The Role (External)

What You’ll Be Doing

Keep Everyone Informed – Share live travel updates and safety announcements using station systems and screens.

Coordinate with the Best – Work side-by-side with train operators, route control and national control centre’s, and frontline staff during the everyday and the unexpected.

Operate Critical IT Customer Information Systems – CCTV, fire panels, customer help points – you’ll help keep it all running.

Spot & Report Faults – Notice when something’s not right? You’ll escalate quickly and keep a clear log.

Support During Incidents – Be part of the emergency response team when things go wrong, helping to keep customers safe and informed.

Log the Action – Every shift is different, and you’ll document what happens to keep the team aligned.

What You’ll Need

  • A clear, confident voice and strong communication skills.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing or high-pressure environment.
  • A collaborative mindset — you’re a team player who pulls together during busy periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Ideally, some knowledge of the UK rail network and station operations — but we’ll support you if you’re eager to learn.

Essential

  • Command of English language, both written and oral with a clear and concise speaking voice
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment
