Smartedge’s Client is looking for an individual to help with their Storage Specialist (SAN /NAS/DPS/Automation) @ Sheffield, UK (Hybrid Working)
Key area:
NAS:
"Storage - Strong File storage and virtualisation knowledge, provisioning and migration knowledge; Storage - Strong knowledge in File hardware installation and configuration
Own the design, operation, and migration of enterprise NAS platforms (e.g., NetApp, Isilon/PowerScale) delivering NFS/SMB services for containerised and traditional workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engineer and secure NFS/SMB shares, quotas, snapshots, and replication.
- Integrate NAS with OpenShift via CSI drivers and automate provisioning.
- Plan and execute data migrations and performance tuning.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Deep experience with NetApp/Isilon or equivalent.
- Strong TCP/IP, AD/LDAP, Kerberos, and Linux skills.
- Scripting/automation (Ansible/Python) preferred."
DPS:
Storage - Strong DPS storage and virtualisation knowledge, provisioning and migration knowledge; Storage - Strong knowledge in DPS hardware installation and configuration
Provide subject matter expertise for enterprise data protection services including NetBackup/Commvault and Data Domain. Ensure resilient backup, restore, and DR capabilities for OpenShift, virtualised, and bare-metal workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and operate backup policies, schedules, retention, and air-gap strategies.
- Integrate with OpenShift (Velero/CSI snapshots) and databases for application-consistent backups.
- Optimize performance, deduplication, encryption, and replication to DR sites.
- Perform restores, DR drills, compliance reporting, and capacity planning.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Hands-on with NetBackup/Commvault and Data Domain.
- Knowledge of SAN/NAS, Linux, and networking.
- Experience with RPO/RTO design and regulatory audit needs.."
Automation :
Primary Skill - Storage - Storage technology, SME level preferred, automation SME, testing and observability
Lead automation strategy and delivery across SAN/NAS/DPS platforms to enable compliant, repeatable, and observable storage provisioning for OpenShift/Kubernetes workloads.
Own patterns, tooling, and CI/CD integration for storage services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design policy-driven, API-first storage automation using Ansible, Python, and Terraform.
- Build reusable modules for provisioning LUNs, file shares, snapshots, replication, and migration.
- Integrate with CI/CD (Jenkins/Tekton/GitHub Actions) and ITSM/CMDB for change and audit.
- Embed security (RBAC, secrets, encryption) and observability (metrics, logs, traces).
- Standardise runbooks and enable squads via documentation and enablement sessions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong Ansible/Python/Terraform experience in storage automation.
- Knowledge of SAN/NAS/DPS platforms (Dell EMC, Pure, NetApp, Data Domain, Cisco/Brocade).
- Understanding of CSI, OpenShift/Kubernetes, and GitOps practices.
- Experience in regulated environments with audit and compliance requirements
