We are looking for enthusiastic
Postgraduate Student Ambassadors to share your authentic experience with prospective students and their supporters. We welcome applications from both on-campus and online postgraduate students.
The Opportunity
Being a Student Ambassador is a great way to get involved at the University, have fun and gain valuable skills. You’re also helping prospective students learn why the University of Edinburgh is a great place to study.
Ambassadors will have opportunities to represent the University, their School and the student body to internal and external audiences. The work is always varied but will primarily involve opportunities to lead campus tours, on-campus and online events, peer-to-peer text chat, and student panels. As well as other activities that arise throughout the year. Ambassadors will receive specific training to support the activity that is expected of them.
The work is also flexible around your studies – there are no set hours per week or month. Whilst this work cannot offer a frequent income, it does offer valuable work experience. The pay rate for this role is £12.60 per hour. As the work is ad-hoc an increment of 18.1% is applied to cover holiday pay (£2.28).

Use of AI tools in writing your application
We strongly recommend you do not use AI tools to write your cover letter. We have recently seen a rise in cover letters that do not match the person we interview. When this happens the candidate is removed from the process. Please ensure that your cover letter represents you and includes real examples from your past experience.

Interviews will be held
w/c Monday 20 th October – If you are successful to interview you will be given the opportunity to select a range of interview dates and times that would suit you. If you do not complete this by the deadline given at that time, we will not be able to progress your application.
For all new Student Ambassadors attendance at a training session is mandatory.
For all on campus students: Training will take place in-person on Saturday, November 8 2025 between 10:00-16:30. This is the only training session available to on campus students.
For all online students: There will be an online session (through Microsoft Teams) on Thursday, November 13, from 18:00-20:00. Online students who live in or around Edinburgh can opt to attend the in-person training above if they prefer. This will give you the option of doing in-person work.
On campus students
cannot choose to attend the virtual session as this session will not cover everything we need to go through for on-campus work.

Student Recruitment and Admissions (SRA) leads the design, development and implementation of the University of Edinburgh’s strategy for student recruitment, admissions, and widening participation. SRA is one of a number of key services within the University Secretary’s Group (USG). We contribute to two core University strategies: the Student Recruitment Strategy and the Widening Participation Strategy.
We support the implementation of these strategies in two ways:
- Our teams deliver a range of core, University-wide activities;
- We lead and co-ordinate the delivery of aspects of the strategies where there is shared responsibility with Schools, Colleges and Support Group services.
