Background
The Birmingham Business School (BBS) is committed to providing an exceptional student experience from the very beginning of a student's academic journey. Welcome Week is a critical period that introduces new students to the University, the Business School, and their peers. The Welcome Week Ambassador role has been developed to ensure students feel supported, informed, and welcomed into the BBS community.
Role Summary
Business School Ambassadors will be key representatives of the School during Welcome Week and the two weeks that follow. Reporting to the Student Experience Officer, ambassadors will provide operational and student-facing support, mainly based at the Business School reception and across a variety of welcome events. While they will report to the Student Experience Officer, ambassadors will also receive guidance and instructions from other Business School staff during their shifts.
Main Duties
- Act as the first point of contact for new students at the Business School reception.
- Provide clear and friendly guidance to students on timetables, locations, and events.
- Support delivery of Welcome Week activities, such as supporting the Business School receptions, induction sessions, Coniston team-building days, and student socials.
- Signpost students to relevant services across campus.
- Offer support with room directions, event setup, and answering general student queries.
- Work collaboratively with staff in the Business School reception area to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all students.
- Represent the Business School in a professional, enthusiastic, and inclusive manner at all times.
Person Specification
- Are current undergraduate students within the Business School.
- Are available to work throughout Welcome Week (w/c 22nd September) and for flexible, ad hoc hours during the following two weeks.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate a positive, friendly, and approachable attitude.
- Are reliable, punctual, and well-organised.
- Are confident in taking initiative and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
- Have the ability to follow instructions from multiple team members.
- Are passionate about helping new students feel welcomed and supported.
