Background
We are looking for Undergraduate and postgraduate students based in the College of Social Sciences, this role sits in the Student Recruitment Marketing & Communications team, based in Muirhead Tower and University House.
Role Summary
- Represent CoSS: Act as an ambassador and source of insight for the department, demonstrating knowledge about the different programmes you study.
- Engage and signpost: Communicate with prospective students, parents and visitors about the College of Social Sciences and how the service can support them to reach their goals now and into the future.
- Support events: Help deliver core recruitment events on campus.

Main Duties
The main duties of the role are as follows:
- Act as an ambassador and source of student insight for CoSS.
- Develop knowledge of the support, resources and opportunities offered by CoSS to appropriately guide the audience.
- Understand prospective student’s key questions, needs and challenges.
- Work with the Marketing Assistant and wider Marketing Team to develop and implement ways to better engage our students in person.
- Serve as the first point of contact on the UniBuddy platform, engaging with prospective students to understand their interests and provide information on how the College of Social Sciences can support their academic and personal goals.
- Create engaging and diverse content to boost reputation and awareness, including blogs and video content.
- Engage with students, staff and external guests at our flagship events such as Open Day and Offer-Holder Visit Days.
- Help teams with the physical setup and delivery of events on the day and before the event.
- Support with any live social media content as appropriate
Person Specification
- A current UG/PGT CoSS student at the University of Birmingham through the academic year 2025/26.
- Demonstrable interest in event support.
- Excellent written and oral communication, with the ability to adapt to different groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability and enthusiasm to engage other students.
- Experience and confidence to deliver informational presentations to small and large groups, including diverse student and staff (academic or professional) audiences.
- Digital literacy and adaptability, and ability to use MS Office / MS 365 programmes.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation and time-management skills.
- Evidence of use of initiative, creative thinking and of implementing creative ideas.
- A positive, teamwork, enthusiastic, flexible and problem-solving approach to working.
- Commitment to the working hours and contract duration.
