Background
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student to support the Children Young People and Families Programme team, from the School for Public Health Research, following the recent CYPF Symposium. During the event, facilitators gathered a significant volume of written material capturing participant reflections, discussions, and narratives. The successful candidate will be responsible for transcribing these materials and conducting initial analysis to help shape the ‘story’ of our Programme.
Role Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for transcribing written materials from the CYPF symposium and conducting initial analysis to help shape the ‘story’ of our Programme. This role is ideal for a student with interests in qualitative research, social sciences, programme evaluation, or data analysis.
Main Duties
Transcription:
- Accurately transcribe all written materials collected during the Symposium (handwritten notes, sticky notes, worksheets, etc.).
- Organise and digitise content in a clear, structured format.
Qualitative Analysis:
- Conduct thematic coding of the transcribed material using a combination of manual methods and generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude).
- Identify key themes, messages, and insights emerging from participant contributions.
Reporting:
- Produce a short, clearly written summary report outlining key findings, themes, and recommendations.
- Present material in an accessible and engaging format for internal use.
Collaboration:
- Liaise with Programme leads to ensure outputs align with expectations.
- Provide updates on progress as required.
Person Specification
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle qualitative data accurately and sensitively.
- Confidence using digital tools, including generative AI for analysis.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently.
Desirable:
- Experience with qualitative research methods.
- Familiarity with thematic analysis and/or programme evaluation.
- Interest in child, youth, and family wellbeing fields.
Expected Time Commitment
- Approximately 50 hours in total.
