Part-time: 28 hours per week
Fixed-term: 12 months (maternity cover)
We are looking for someone who can help us attract and recruit high quality undergraduate applicants from diverse backgrounds and who is keen to support our student recruitment and applicant communication activities more generally.
As part of the School’s External Engagement team, the post holder will play a key role in the planning and delivery of undergraduate student recruitment and conversion activities for the School of Mathematics.
This post is advertised as part-time (28 hours per week) and we are open to considering fewer hours (minimum 21 per week) and flexible working patterns. There is an expectation to work at least 2 days in the office per week and attendance at in person events as required.

You will have specific operational responsibility for organising and facilitating recruitment and conversion activities for both UK and overseas applicants; activities include but are not limited to on-campus events, online events, and applicant communications.
The postholder will need;
- experience of event planning, delivery and facilitation, ideally including experience of student recruitment events.
- experience of using a variety of digital media to engage with prospective students, including editing and updating web content and social media content.
- to be self-motivated and able to manage multiple competing demands to ensure deadlines are met and ability to use initiative and be proactive is essential.
- confident presentation and communication skills, and will have experience of working with people from a range of cultural backgrounds.

The School is situated in the Janes Clerk Maxwell Building within the King’s Buildings campus. We have over 150 academic and related staff, and around 160 research students. We have approximately 1000 students on our undergraduate programmes spread across five year groups, and we welcome over 200 MSc students every year. More than 50% of our students are from outside the UK, and our international community represents over 50 nationalities.

The School of Mathematics
The University of Edinburgh's School of Mathematics is one of the world’s leading mathematical sciences departments, home to world-class researchers and to an innovative educational environment for both undergraduates and postgraduates. We are proud to have a highly international faculty and students from around the world. As a School we value both the breadth and depth of our research and teaching.
We have around 110 permanent faculty and around 45 research fellows and research associates, who cover a broad range of research topics in pure and applied mathematics, operational research and statistics. The School has an enviable record of attracting prestigious fellowships and currently hosts, for instance, 6 ERC grant holders and 7 Royal Society University Research and Dorothy Hodgkin Fellows. In the 2023 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects we are ranked 18 th among the world’s best Mathematics departments. The School delivers a world-leading educational experience for its students and is constantly exploring new evidence-based ideas in mathematical education in order to provide a stimulating learning environment. There are excellent possibilities for imaginative curriculum development, including online activities, and course design and delivery. The School teaches pure and applied Mathematics, operational research and statistics. We have approximately 1000 undergraduate students, around 210 MSc students, and our Graduate School has close to 160 PhD students.
Edinburgh is home to the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences, one of the UK’s two major conference centres in the mathematical sciences and operated jointly by the University with Heriot-Watt University. Over the past 30 years the centre has established a superb reputation for hosting workshops at the highest scientific level on all mathematical topics, attracting many of the best mathematicians in the world to the UK.
The School is located in the James Clerk Maxwell Building which is situated on the King's Buildings campus, approximately 3 kilometres south of the city centre.
