At National Grid, we’re investing in the future of the electricity transmission system to support the great Grid upgrade. As a Project Manager, you’ll play a vital role in delivering projects that not only keep our network safe and reliable today but also prepare it for tomorrow’s needs as society becomes increasingly dependent on clean electricity. Location: Bristol, Swindon, or Exeter (Hybrid working: home, office, and site as required)
You’ll lead and manage a wide range of projects across our South West region, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. Projects vary in scale and complexity from HV transformer and shunt reactor installations to cable replacements, cyber security upgrades, and protection and control system replacements.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Managing multiple asset replacement and new build projects (valued from £100k to £10m).
- Overseeing NG delivery teams and contractors, ensuring safe, efficient construction in line with NG policies.
- Taking ownership of CDM responsibilities and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Leading projects across the South West (South Wales, Cornwall up to Gloucestershire across to Buckinghamshire, and Hampshire). Occasional travel and overnight stays may be required.
- Managing financial performance, stakeholder relationships, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
We’re looking for a hands-on, proactive project manager who thrives in a technical environment and enjoys working with a variety of stakeholders. You’ll bring:
- Minimum HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Strong project, stakeholder, and contractor management skills.
- Knowledge of NEC contract management and CDM Regulations.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- A full UK driving licence.
It’s also great (but not essential) if you have:
- Experience in HV substations and/or construction.
- A Project Management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
- A Certificate in Management Studies or similar.
Pay And Benefits
- A Salary of £58,590 to £62,500 pa including allowance + Contribution Pension total up to 18%.
- Company Car, Bonus, Paid overtime.
- 37 Hours per week Monday to Friday + 26 days annual leave plus 8 statutory days.
