Your Role And Responsibilities
Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council , and
Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are offering 12-week paid Summer Internships with a start date of
22 June 2026 . They are some of the local government authorities responsible for maintaining countywide public sector services within Suffolk. You will be working from various locations across the county, depending on the placement.
It is a very exciting time to be working in Local Government. Service demand and financial pressures mean that we have to work in very different ways to meet these challenges. We are having to think differently about how we can deliver essential services in a dynamic, flexible and cost-effective way.

You will need
The internship programme is specifically designed for undergraduates studying in the UK who are seeking to gain and develop employability skills, so you will need to:
- be currently undertaking a degree-level programme, or due to graduate in Summer 2026
- be eligible to work in the UK
- be available to attend the assessment centre, which is essential, in Melton IP12 1RT on 1 April 2026 . The location is near a train station and is served by other public transport.

We will offer you
Roles are based at one of our modern and conveniently located offices, with some hybrid working available. Our interns of previous years told us that they got the most from their placement when they were in the office so we will encourage collaborative working as much as possible, depending on your placement.
We aim to provide the best opportunities across a range of services, which could include areas such as economic development and growth, housing, HR, families and communities and asset management to name a few.
Placements are offered in a variety of service areas across the councils and for each placement there will be a description providing more detail about each one and the type of work involved. This will be issued to you before the assessment centre and will have the opportunity to state your preferences, which will be considered but not guaranteed.
