Job Description

Looking for a role where you can truly change lives?

Join our Supported Accommodation team as a Support Coordinator and help create a safe, supportive space for young people aged 16 21 in our Supported Housing facility situated near Sunderland city centre.

Gentoo's Supported Accommodation Team make a real difference in their rewarding roles, they deliver a sensitive service, responding to the needs of the individual, and are key in supporting young people to live well and move on to independent living.

In the role of Support Coordinator, you will promote well- being, safety and personal development in a 24-hour temporary supported accommodation service, guiding the young people towards independent living. You will inspire personal growth by encouraging and leading activities that help develop essential life skills. You will need to stay calm under pressure, think quickly, and provide reassurance to young people who may be facing difficult circumstances. Your ability and confidence to assess situations, respond effectively, and communicate with clarity will help create a safe and supportive environment.

Beyond practical support, you will empower young people to take charge of their futures, guiding them to uphold their housing agreements and transition towards independent living. Working closely with a dedicated team, youll ensure continuous support and help to build trust and stability. This is more than a job, it is a chance to make a lasting impact on young peoples lives.

Working a standard 36 hour working week, Mon Sun on a shift pattern between 7.30am 11pm

The role is subject to an enhanced DBS paid for by Gentoo.

Deliver a service that is sensitive and responsive to the needs of young people, empowering them to define and achieve their personal goals.

Undertake assessment of need and act as a key worker for up to six young people, ensuring all interactions are recorded accurately and respectfully.

Collaborate with the Support Manager to review policies and practices, ensuring the supported housing facility meets all regulatory requirements, including those set by Ofsted.

Contribute as a valued team member to the effective delivery of services to ensure effective delivery of services, providing a flexible, person centred, responsive approach.

Attend, coordinate and represent Gentoo at relevant partnership meetings and meetings with customers and/or their representatives.

Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with external agencies and partners, supporting young people to access specialist support and services as part of their support plan.

Work in partnerships with Local Neighbourhood Teams to provide a holistic tenancy sustainable approach to enrich the lives of our young people.

Support continuous service improvement with service user, and by using data and best practice to inform decisions.

Prepare and present reports as required.

Contribute to risk assessment processes, including identifying of safeguarding concerns.

Support the development and delivery of training initiatives.

Take ownership of your professional development by staying informed about current legislation, guidance and best practice to ensure a high-quality service delivery.

Essential

What we are looking for:

Experience & Knowledge

Proven experience working with young or vulnerable people.

Understanding of social housing challenges and customer needs.

Awareness and understanding of housing policies, procedures and regulatory standards including Tenant Satisfaction Measures.

Demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding, trauma, substance misuse and mental health.

Skills & Attributes

Resilient and confident in handling support and safeguarding issues.

Able to work independently and as part of a team, with strong self-motivation and ownership of tasks.

Skilled in managing complex situations with flexibility and professionalism.

Able to build and maintain effective partnerships, with the ability to constructively challenge when needed.

Discreet and trustworthy, with a commitment to confidentiality.

Additional Requirements

Able to meet the travel and working pattern requirements of the position.

Desirable

Experience delivering group work or structured activities.

Background of working with individuals with complex needs such as learning difficulties or mental health.

Experience of working with unaccompanied asylum seekers

First aid trained -

A full UK driving license.
