As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you'll be doing

The Successful Candidate Will Have The Following Accountabilities

  • The security and integrity of all survey equipment;
  • The sufficiency of survey equipment with Project Leads;
  • Ensuring that initial survey information (data, plans, software etc.), is to an acceptable standard;
  • The quality of setting out derived from survey data;
  • Ensuring that all core service requirements are correctly implemented;
  • Ensuring effective liaison with others to progress non-core service requirements;
  • Ensuring that adequate project specific survey procedures are produced, as required to support core service procedures;
  • Measuring all core services activities through active and reactive monitoring;
  • Reviewing all monitoring results and initiating appropriate corrective and preventative actions;
  • Liaising with the project management to ensure that the programmed survey requirements are met and monitored.

Who we're looking for

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:-

  • Previous experience in Quantity Surveying, some of which should have been obtained within a relevant business environment;
  • Sound working knowledge of construction and contract law and various forms of Conditions of Contract;
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of tendering and procurement processes;
  • Knowledge of construction techniques on particular projects;
  • Ability to apply the knowledge and principles of commercial management to construction projects;
  • Working knowledge of basic plant, equipment and materials;
  • Knowledge and understanding of sub-contracting principles, together with the ability to draft and administer sub contracts;
  • Ability to implement procedures to quantify and cost construction works, including the use of appropriate standard methods of measurement;
  • Understanding of the requirements to provide and obtain Insurance, Bonds and Warranties;
  • Proficiency in administration, writing, numeracy, IT and MS Office;
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative;
  • Enthusiasm and results focus, together with an ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines;
  • Effective negotiation skills - both with internal and external customers.

The following experience/qualifications are desirable:-

  • Membership of a relevant professional body and/or relevant professional qualification.
