Brief Description
The purpose of this role is to undertake annual property inspections and report on the condition of Network Rail building assets, including stations, depots and lineside buildings to the Route Asset Manager to enable development of robust asset management strategy and ongoing maintenance and renewal plans in line with safety priorities and budget allocation.

You will be part of the Northwest Route, covering Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cumbria.
There is also a Regional Team which supports Regional Major Programmes & Professional services.
About The Role (External)
As a Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing and delivering a defined programme of asset condition surveys in line with statutory and company standards. This includes developing annual survey strategies, monitoring progress, and reporting asset conditions via company systems. You’ll work closely with the Works Delivery Manager and Asset Engineers to align survey outputs with maintenance priorities and long-term planning. Your role also includes supporting technical work scopes, monitoring maintenance schemes, and ensuring completed works meet required standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering surveys and uploading results into asset management systems
- Assisting with maintenance planning, risk identification, and quality assurance
- Fulfilling CDM 2015 responsibilities for the Building Surveyor role
- Attending works hand-backs, working nights/weekends, and occasional travel
All duties must be carried out in compliance with Network Rail standards and policies, with regular training to maintain rail-specific competencies.
Essential Criteria
- Educated to HNC / HND level or equivalent in Building Studies
- Experience in surveying asset property portfolios.
- Computer-literate, including knowledge of Microsoft programmes including Word and Excel.
- Strong communication skills.
- Full Driving License.
Desirable Criteria
- Understanding of track safety and railway possessions regime.
- Experience of surveying property within the public sector transport environment or similar.
- Experience in property asset management & data collection systems
- Educated to Degree level.
- Knowledge/use of AutoCAD.
- Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or equivalent (CIOB).
- Land surveying/Total Stations/3D Modelling
