The Team:
The Central Sustainability Office (CSO) of M&G plc works closely with asset management, asset owner, and corporate sustainability teams to deliver targeted Sustainability outcomes for the Group. This role reports to the Head of Risk and Regulatory Advisory within the Central Sustainability Office and supports the delivery of Group sustainability risk management activities. This is a unique opportunity for an aspiring sustainability professional to play a key part in supporting M&G achieve its ambitious sustainability vision and work closely with, and learn from, senior subject-matter experts.
The Role:
The Sustainability Analyst will have a particular focus on corporate and investment risk management as well as investment research and analysis. This role supports the identification and implementation of actions in key areas such as sustainability risk management, regulatory advice, and investment research, providing guidance on regulatory trends, peer best practices, and industry initiatives related to sustainability topics.
Key Responsibilities for this role:
- Assist the Head of Risk and Regulatory Advisory in risk management activities by identifying risks, conducting risk and control assessments, and preparing reports
- Support regulatory advisory activities by reviewing emerging sustainability risks, performing ongoing ESG regulatory horizon scanning, and providing feedback for regulatory consultations.
- Conduct and effectively summarize research on sustainability risk and regulatory themes, including relevant frameworks, regulation, industry initiatives and peer best practices related to financial services
- Review and update sustainability risks and controls register, risk appetite statements, Key Risk Indicators and risk guidance and other related documents
- Support the Head of Risk and Regulatory Advisory in chairing or attending risk/ sustainability working groups or forums by preparing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking actions to completion
- Develop sustainability-related risk training materials
- Support the Head of Risk and Regulatory Advisory on the provision of high quality proactive and reactive advice to the CSO office on sustainability risk and regulatory matters
- Undertake investment thematic analysis on M&G’s sustainable and impact products and portfolios and advise the CSO team on sustainable product characteristics, impact measurement & management methodologies
- Contribute with content creation to showcase ‘Thought Leadership’ on specific sustainable investment topics
- Perform risk, regulatory or investment analysis for sustainability related reports, sustainability MI dashboards and ad hoc thought pieces
- Act as a centre of expertise to develop and implement proprietary tools for the analysis, evaluation of sustainable investments across asset classes
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- 3+ years of experience within sustainability and preferably at a financial institution.
- Strong technical knowledge of sustainability in financial services and ability to engage on environmental, social and governance topics with a risk perspective
- Working knowledge of risk and controls frameworks used in financial services
- Familiarity with financial services regulations, including key initiatives and regulation affecting the sector in the UK and the EU (e.g, SFDR, SDR, ISSB, CSRD and the EU Taxonomy)
- Knowledge of life & pensions and savings & investment products, markets and competitors
- Good project management skills and ability to navigate a fast-paced environment, work independently, and juggle multiple tasks
- Self-starter with a proactive and collaborative approach, who is able to effectively engage with key stakeholders across the group
- Organised and thorough with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent office skills and practical experience of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Degree in a relevant subject would be an advantage
