Are you passionate about tackling the climate emergency and driving meaningful environmental change? Hounslow Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Climate Emergency & Environmental Strategy team as a Sustainability Officer. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in delivering our ambitious climate action plan, supporting borough-wide sustainability initiatives, and helping to create a cleaner, greener, and more resilient future for all who live and work in Hounslow.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

The Climate Emergency & Environmental Strategy team at Hounslow Council is at the forefront of the borough’s response to the climate crisis. Established to deliver on the Council’s bold climate commitments, the team leads the development and implementation of strategies that reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and promote sustainable living across the borough.

Working collaboratively across departments, with local communities, businesses, and regional partners, the team ensures that environmental sustainability is embedded in everything the Council does. From decarbonising council operations and supporting green infrastructure projects, to empowering residents to make climate-conscious choices, the team’s work is vital to building a healthier, more resilient Hounslow.

About You

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Sustainability Officer with expertise in climate change and energy to join our ambitious and high-performing Climate Emergency & Environmental Strategy team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Hounslow Council’s commitment to becoming a net zero organisation by 2030, while supporting borough-wide emissions reductions and environmental improvements.

  • You’re a sustainability champion. You have a strong understanding of climate change, carbon reduction, and environmental sustainability, and you're passionate about making a real difference through practical action. You have the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to help tackle the Climate Emergency and reach our ambitious target to be net zero by 2030 whilst influencing wider borough emissions reduction.
  • You’re a skilled project manager. You can lead and deliver complex sustainability projects, manage competing priorities, and work at pace to achieve measurable outcomes. You will be managing and delivering a number of innovative projects that feature as part of the Council’s environmental programmes.
  • You’re a great communicator and collaborator. You can engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, from senior leaders to community groups, and communicate technical information clearly and persuasively. You will be able to demonstrate evidence of developing excellent relationships both within and beyond your direct organisation and you will have delivered significant outcomes for residents and partners through working in collaborative ways. Experience of working in a political environment is desirable.
  • You’re knowledgeable about climate policy. You have experience of managing and delivering decarbonisation projects and development projects. You will be able to provide climate policy advice to the Planning Policy and Development Management Teams
  • You’re a team player with a proactive mindset. You thrive in a collaborative environment, take initiative, and are committed to continuous learning and improvement. You are committed to building knowledge of the environment, environmental change and making changes that address the needs of residents, businesses and our communities.
  • A Basic DBS check is requried.
